Documentary, literature

As historian officially commissioned by the Militargeschichtliche Forschungsamt I have spent two-and-a-half decades studying the Soviet military literature about the history of the Red Army and the Second World War in its original documentary texts—an endless chain of... [Pg.376]

While there is only little documentary evidence for the existence of gas vans , we do have numerous statements by defendants and by witnesses in NS trials, confirming that the gas vans had indeed existed and that people were killed in them. Especially in the 1960s and 1970s trials took place which dealt with the use of gas vans , among other things. In the literature on this subject, therefore, arguments are based primarily on this testimony. [Pg.221]

That the above classification of National Socialist concentration camps is found in the entire body of orthodox literature on Holocaust itself, even today, should in no way be allowed to conceal the fact that the classification is entirely arbitrary and is based upon no documentary evidence whatsoever. All the German wartime documents relating to Auschwitz and Majdanek (Lublin) refer to them simply as concentration camps in exactly the same manner as, for example, Dachau, Buch-enwald, and Sachsenhausen. As we shall soon see, Auschwitz and Majdanek were governed by the same German regulations as the other camps, and the reasons for the high mortality rates were essentially the same. [Pg.286]

According to a specific Quality Insurance Form, each specialist selected the consistent documents that he could find in his own literature fund and also through ACCORE system. He wrote a documentary sheet (see Section 5 a brief synthesis where sub-items and associated selected documents are listed. When it was considered that a strong synthesis was not available, the specialist wrote it. [Pg.244]

Communication emerged as a key issue. The clear majority of those interviewed felt that polices should be directed to and accessible to everyone. But difficulties in this area were identified. The accessibility of documentary sources was particularly criticized. One respondent explained the policies are well intentioned but not aimed at the right level for the majority of people that work on the railway (worker, interviewee 47). Specific problems were seen to be the amount of the written material available and the way in which it was written. There was perceived to be too much paperwork which was difficult to understand, uninteresting, and unreasonable. This reiterates the literature on the law, where clarity emerges as a key factor in encouraging compliance (see Ch. 5). Directors and specialist health and safety staff were aware of the difficulties ... [Pg.146]

See Michael M. Metzger and Gerard F. Schmidt, Postscriptum to Der Hofmeister und die Gouvemante (Berlin de Gruyter, 1969), p. 95. Prang, p. 192, argues that Iffland s plays are more valuable as documentary material for their time than as contributions to comic literature. [Pg.171]

Two forms of cadmium chromate are described in the literature. The first, CdCr04, is thought to be that enthusiastically described by Sailer as Thwaites yellow (q.v.) in his 1869 edition of Field s Chromatography (though Carlyle, in her survey of Enghsh nineteenth century documentary sources found httle other mention of it). It is mentioned in later sources such as Eibner (1909) and Bersch (1901), the latter describing its production by the precipitation of a cadmium salt with potassium chromate. [Pg.68]
