The Diversity Landscape (Chapter 2) is a primer on what diversity looks and feels like in the current civil engineering workforce. [Pg.15]

Landscape Ecology Study of the relationship between spatial patterns and ecological processes on a large number of diverse landscapes. [Pg.1093]

Efforts in the area of second-generation nonsarcosine GlyT-1 inhibitors enjoy a stunning breadth of structural diversity. The field encompasses a highly competitive landscape and many of the scaffolds have been disclosed only in patent literature. [Pg.25]

The Sava river basin is of great significance because of its outstanding biological and landscape diversity. It hosts a large complex of alluvial wetlands and large lowland forest complexes. The Sava is a unique example of a river where some of the floodplains are still intact, supporting both flood alleviation and biodiversity. [Pg.390]

New Brunswick Quaternary geologists have dug more than 18,000 soil pits during the last 25 years in all parts of the province and have an intimate knowledge of the landscape and its soils. New Brunswick s diverse geology and relatively small areal extent led us to sample at double the national/continental density, i.e. two sample sites per 1600 km2 (Fig. 1). The second site within each sample block was taken at a National Forest... [Pg.185]

Change in land use Landscape diversity (e.g. crop diversity, farmland diversity) Location of site (e.g. proximity to ecologically important areas) Scale of plantation (e.g. acreage)... [Pg.117]

Soil salinization is the first stage of environmental destruction caused by sahnity and is related to river and lake salinization. For example, the diversion of the Amu Darya and Syr Darya Rivers caused significant desiccation of the Aral Sea, but it also caused salinization of associated agricultural land (e.g., Funakawa et al. 2000 Spoor 1998). In Australia, soil salinization is the most severe environmental problem on the continent, causing dramatic changes in landscape, industry, and the future of farmland (e.g., Dehaan and Taylor 2002). [Pg.56]

Organic farming s impact on wildlife conservation and landscape is reviewed for the following indicator subcategories species, diversity (floral and faunal), habitat diversity and landscape. [Pg.23]

The reviewed research results indicate that organic farming provides more positive effects on wildlife conservation and landscape than conventional farming systems on a per area unit of land used for agriculture. While data on faunal and floral diversity allow an rmambiguous and positive assessment, the available information on habitat diversity and landscape can only lead to the conclusion that organic farming has the potential to provide positive effects. [Pg.33]
