Distance selling

The Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 pply to contracts for goods or services made under a scheme by a supplier who makes exclusive use of one or more means of distance communication. Distance commimication effectively covers all forms of commimication that do not involve face-to-face contact. [Pg.141]

To protect the consumer the following information should be provided by the seller in writing and in good time before a contract is made  [Pg.141]

The Debye Waller analysis of the S—B bonds gives A05 g2(HO) = 2.9 x 10 A. This value is lower than the pure Co value (3.6 x 10 A ). Due to the low density of the (110) face, one mi t have expected a large mean-square relative displacement. The measured small value reveals a stiffening of the force constant of the Co—Cu bond. This is consistent with the large eontraction of the Co—Cu interlayer distance (sell % see above). The stiffening in strongly relaxed surfaces has been observed before and overcompensate the effect of the reduced surface coordination in the perpendicular direction. Reversed surfaee anisotropy of the mean square relative atomic displacements has also been found on an other low-density surfaee C2 x 2 Cl/Cu(l 10) i.e. one half density of Cl vs. Cu(l 10) in plane density where the Cl atoms moves with amplitudes parallel to the surface eomparable with those of the Cu subtrate, but with a much reduced amplitude in the perpendicular direction... [Pg.113]

Failure of water pressure can spell disaster in laboratories where some operations, such as distillations, are dependent on water. Ideally, an audible alarm would indicate the lack of water pressure. Laboratory supply houses sell water flow indicators that can be placed in series with the water line to equipment. When water is flowing, a brightly colored ball in a clear tube will move or a small propeller will turn. These can be observed from a considerable distance by watchful laboratory personnel. [Pg.50]

The farmer should price his product to reflect the quality, cost of production, competition, service provided, convenience and types of buyer targeted. If all of it sells, the price is too low. At least 10% of people should walk by shaking their heads. The farmer has to consider the transport needed for his product to the market, the distance involved and whether a suitable vehicle is available and can be fully loaded. Sales must be assessed after every event. Don t drive 200 miles to sell 25 chickens (Fanatico Redhage, 2002). [Pg.130]

The Problem Shrimper Stanley is 10 miles from shore in his boat. The store where he sells his daily catch of shrimp is 60 miles down the coast and x miles inland. Stanley lands his boat 24 miles down the coast and bicycles directly to the store. His boat moves at 13 miles per hour, and he bicycles at 15 miles per hour. If the trip from his boat to the store takes a total of 5 hours, then how far is it from the shore to the store Figure 18-9 shows you the layout of the distances and speeds. [Pg.260]

For additional information on the NIST system, see [14]. Two commercial companies sell optical-fiber based systems that send quantum cryptographic keys over the distances of tens of kilometers. One of them is MagiQ Technologies in New York City. The other is a Swiss company id Quantique in Geneva, Switzerland [15]. [Pg.329]

Comment. Because literature service is required in two plants some distance apart, this administrator had little time for on-the-job training of new employees. He has, however, formulated ideas of what he is looking for and translated his ideas into specific educational qualifications. These he has learned are minimum essentials. As there is little uniformity of concept in relation to education of literature chemists, these ideas constitute a real contribution. A chemist himself, in no way did he decry the importance of laboratory work, but he did emphasize the fact that literature work requires a different type of person -- one who approaches it with the conviction of its importance as a distinct occupation. He has also been willing to admit his unsuccessful attempt in selling a career to those who offered skepticism and resistance. On the other hand, there have been instances where a person wholly unfamiliar with literature work may like it, once he realizes he is a creative member of the research function. In fact, the situation next described shows results wherein the selling technique paid dividends. [Pg.8]

When solvent-refined coal is compared with low sulfur oil as a competitive fuel, the local delivered price situation would determine the competitive balance. For example, in the Chicago area where low sulfur fuel oils are selling for 71-75 /MM Btu, the solvent-refined coal could be furnished from the aforementioned hypothetical plant for 53-75 /MM Btu. However, on seacoast locations such as New York, the Gulf Coast, and the West Coast, low sulfur fuel oil could be currently obtained for 61-73 /MM Btu. For the East Coast, a mine-processing plant complex in West Virginia could deliver solvent-refined coal for 53-65 /MM Btu at most population and industrial centers, which is certainly competitive. However the longer transportation distances between a plant in the Wyoming area and the West Coast areas would probably be less attractive in comparison with delivered fuel oil. [Pg.88]

As we observe already today, (1) people meet, become friends, fall in love, and develop relationships over the Internet (2) people search the World Wide Web to find the information for which they used to consult dictionaries, encyclopedia, atlas, or telephone books and (3) people buy and sell things over the Internet. Some people even seem to go as far as arguing that it is safe to assume a certain thing does not exist at all if it cannot be found in the Internet. One of the key value propositions the Internet provides is overcoming the physical distance, with virtually no cost and time for travel and yet with potential anonymity where gender, age, race, and physical attributes are not exposed at all. There is a saying that no one knows you are a dog on the Internet. [Pg.118]
