Supported silver catalysts are relatively commonly used in gas phase oxidations of alcohols.74,75 Benzyl alcohol can be selectively oxidised to benzaldehyde using a 0.6% Ag/pumice catalyst76 with 100% selectivity, although its activity is less than a similar Pd material. However, a mixed Pd-Ag/pumice bimetallic increases the activity whilst retaining the 100% selectivity to benzaldehyde. The authors of this study concluded that the role of the Pd was to activate the substrate whereas the highly dispersed silver particles served to activate the oxygen. Hence, the mechanism was one of cooperation between the Ag° and Pd° sites, the alloy phase, detected by EXAFS, was considered not to play an important role. [Pg.341]

In Section II1.2 we discussed ethylene adsorption to a dispersed silver supported on alumina. This section is separated from the earlier discussion for the principal reason that the spectroscopic methods utilized in the silver investigations are generally not applicable to transition metals with partially filled d-orbitals. The most relevant metals (primarily platinum, rhodium, ruthenium, and palladium)... [Pg.298]

In melt electrospinning, silver nanoparticles are doped in molten polymer to prepare a silver/polymer composite. It is extremely difficult to disperse silver nanoparticles uniformly into the polymer matrix. This problem arises mainly due to the ease with which nanoparticles agglomerate and also, the high viscosity of the molten polymer. In the past few years, compounding of PP with nanosilver using a compounding extruder has gained popularity. [Pg.64]

Carbons containing dispersed silver [205, 372-374] also show good cycling behavior. Independently of the alloying of lithium with the metal, lithium intercalation into the carbon takes place. Apart from carbons and metal phases, novel oxides such as Li MV04(M = Co, Cd, Ni, Zn l[Pg.408]

This phenomenon is shown in Eigure 1 for aluminum flakes. Figure 1 shows the effect of shear processing in the percolation threshold. These studies also showed that for randomly dispersed silver spheres in a Bakelite composition, the percolation threshold (where the composite became electrically conductive) approached 40%. This amount of metal in the composite makes it hard to mold, and reduces its mechanical integrity for most applications. [Pg.171]
