Dirt buildup

Dirt buildup on the motor s cooling-air fan guard screen. [Pg.320]

The scale or fouling resistances represent a necessary safety factor that increases the surface of the heat exchanger. This enables the full process duty requirements to be attained between cleaning periods. When an exchanger is first placed in operation there is no dirt or scale on the tubes consequently, the overall resistance consists of the two film and the tube wall resistances. During operation, dirt or scale accumulates on the surface of the tubes and the overall heat transfer rate decreases as the dirt buildup increases. The rate of this scale or dirt depends on the cleanliness or fouling tendencies of the process fluids. [Pg.623]

Inspect for dirt on the chains and sprockets the same way as for drives. Also inspect for dirt buildup between the chain and tracks or gnides. Chains nsed on conveyors nsnally cannot be shielded from the material they carry, nor can they be protected from their normal working conditions. Conveyor chains are often affected much more by dirt buildup because of this. [Pg.385]

Dirt or foreign material between aprons, flights, or slats can canse bending and let material leak. Continued dirt buildup can cause the aprons, flights, or slats to break. This can lead to larger materials entering the breaks and causing a conveyor wreck. [Pg.385]

Another advantage of CMS is that they reduce dirt buildup on windows. Not only can the indirect vision device (cameras instead of mirrors) be cleaned less frequently, the windows also need less cleaning due to the fact that it is not required anymore to perceive tiny details in the outside located mirrors. This leads to lower costs of ownership and an improved truck appearance [10]. [Pg.440]

SPOT-CHECK THE CHAIN. As part of your pre-ride checklist, eyeball the chain for problems. Listen for squeaks that can signal rusted links, and look for other dirt buildup or links that don t seem to smoothly swivel. If you find localized dirt, brush it out with an old toothbrush and apply a drop of chain lubricant. [Pg.395]

Buildup of dirt and other foreign material lodged between the seal ring and seat will create an excessive spin and damage on the floating seal ring unit. It is therefore improper to use soft material such as babbitt and silver as seal rings. [Pg.62]

Particle removal by impaction is evident in many common situations one example is the accumulation of dirt on the leading edges of blades of an electric room fan. The dustier the house and the less frequently the fan is cleaned, the more pronounced this buildup will be, up to some maximum thickness where the mechanical strength of the dirt layer becomes insufficient to resist aerodynamic forces. Other examples of impaction on a larger scale are crushed insects on automobile windshields and headlights (see Fig. 4-30) and the accumulation of snow on the upwind side of a tree trunk during a snowstorm. [Pg.356]

But that s what makes their defense of H202 so interesting. H202 is dirt cheap. The drug companies can t patent it, so it s a threat to the antibiotic industry (it has remarkable antibiotic effects). It s a threat to the heart bypass industry (it will clean arteries of atherosclerotic buildup), and it s a threat to the surgical and chemotherapy cancer treatment industry (combined with radiation, it will rapidly reduce cancer growths with less toxic doses of X-ray). If the FDA runs true to form, it will eventually join its brothers in the drug industry—medicine, the Post Office, and the FTC—and condemn peroxide therapy. [Pg.36]

Inlet weirs and recessed seal pans have the disadvantage of creating areas of stagnant liquid, where sediment, dirt, and polymer can build up. Such buildup may restrict the downcomer outlet flow area and cause premature flooding. For this reason, these devices should be avoided in fouling services (88, 144, 257, 268, 404, 409). Inlet weirs and recessed seal pans are also more expensive than flat seal areas, but often by a small amount (61). The cost difference between inlet weirs and recessed seal pans is usually small (73, 317). [Pg.187]

Contacts, insulation, dust and dirt on equipment, heat buildup in ducts tmd switches. [Pg.1579]

In cases of a buildup of dirt on the top of the column, the column can be treated as follows Flush the column with a range of solvents with increasing elution power (starting with water and then acetonitrile, followed by isopropanol and heptane, back to isopropanol, and then acetonitrile). This will wash off any materials that may have stuck to the column due to nonpolar/ nonpolar interactions. Another method is to turn the column around and back-flush with mobile phase. This acts to drive off any contamination from the top of the column. [Pg.207]

Lipases are involved in breakdown of lipids. Excess oil buildup on face is a major skin condition that causes acne. Oily skin will not be aesthetically appealing as the makeup applied will not stay for a long time. Application of lipase onto skin will remove the excess oil buildup and results in skin balancing. Ansorge-Schumacher et al. discussed the cosmetic applications of Hpases. Lipases are used as cleansing agent to remove dirt and... [Pg.639]
