Direct susceptibility test

Direct susceptibility testing involves inoculating specialized... [Pg.2017]

A variety of factors may be responsible for apparent lack of response to therapy. It is possible that the disease is not infectious or nonbacterial in origin, or there is an undetected pathogen. Other factors include those directly related to drug selection, the host, or the pathogen. Laboratory error in identification and/or susceptibility testing errors are rare. [Pg.398]

For some bacteria (eg, Haemophilus species), the susceptibility patterns of strains are similar except for the production of 13 lactamase. In these cases, extensive susceptibility testing may not be required, and a direct test for 3 lactamase using a chromogenic 3-lactam substrate (nitrocephin disk) may be substituted. [Pg.1105]

MICs) of a drug for comparison with anticipated blood or tissue levels. The two most common methods of susceptibility testing are disk dilfusion (Kirby-Bauer) and broth dilution. For some bacteria (eg, gonococci, enterococci, H influenzae), a direct test for beta-lac-tamase can be substituted, since susceptibility patterns are identical for all strains except for the production of beta-lactamase. [Pg.448]

The mechanism of induction of histamine release by alphaxalone and alphadolone shown by the leucocyte test in susceptible individuals is not clear at present, but it appears to be like Cremophor EL. This means that it could be due either to an anaphylactic or anaphylactoid (direct histamine release) reaction. We did not find histamine release with these agents from the leucocytes of normal volunteers. We were unable to elicit a positive Prausnitz-Kiistner reaction in two patients in whom a reaction occurred after a second exposure to Althesin, and in whom the vehicle did not produce any response, either in the direct skin test or in the leucocyte test. [Pg.265]

The available experimental data, because of their paucity and their inaccuracy, do not permit the extensive testing of these figures. The directly determined susceptibilities for helium, neon, and argon are in gratifying agreement with the theoretical ones (Table YI). From the mole refraction results we may expect ions in solution to have values of % near those for gaseous ions. KoenigsbergerJ has made determinations of % for seven alkali halides in aqueous solution, in... [Pg.699]
