Dilator tapered

If the hub removal is necessary, such as required on compressor with non-split seals, a tapered hub fit on the shaft should be used. The removable hubs should have tapped puller holes. The shaft should be keyless with the preferred method of installation and removal by use of hydraulic dilation. Two injection ports 180° apart should be used whether injection is through the shaft or through the hub. Shrink fits should be 2 to 2.5 mil/in. of diameter. API 671 rcL ommends 1,5 mil/in. minimum, but experience indicates the heavier shrink may be required. For the juncture rating calculation, a f ra lion value of. 12 is recommended. [Pg.335]

Figure 24-13 Lacrimal dilators (Storz, Inc., St. Louis, MO, USA). Top dilator is the Muldoon instrument note the medium tip and rapid expansion. The next two are different sizes of the Wilder dilator. The bottom dilator is the Reudemann. It has a very fine dp and narrow taper, rendering it perhaps the most useful of the group. Using a micropipette and a small suction pressure to aspirate a hemispherical projection from a cell body into the pipette, Evans and Yeung measured a value for the cortical tension of 0.035 mN/m. Needham and Eiochmuth [1992] measured the cortical tension of individual cells that were driven down a tapered pipette in a series of equilibrium positions. In many cases the cortical tension increased as the cell moved further into the pipette, which means that the ceU has an apparent area expansion modulus (Equation 60.7). They obtained an average value of 0.04 mN/m for the expansion modulus and an extrapolated value for the cortical tension (at zero area dilation) in the resting state of 0.024 mN/m. The importance of the actin cytoskeleton in maintaining cortical tension was demonstrated by Tsai et al. [ 1994]. Treatment of the cells with a drug that disrupts actin filament structure (CTB = cytochalasin B) resulted in a decrease in cortical tension from 0.027 to 0.022 mN/m at a CTB concentration of 3 /rM and to 0.014 mN/m at 30 /rM. [Pg.1025]

Initial access into either the IJV or the SCV is gained with standard ultrasound guidance using micropuncture techniques. The 0.018-in. mandril guidewire is placed into the right atrium (RA). The tract is dilated over the mandril wire and then the non-tapered catheter is advanced over the wire until the tip is in the superior aspect of the RA. In patients with excessive soft tissue thickness, it is often difficult to directly insert the soft silicone non-tapered catheter. In these cases, it will be necessary to use a peel-away sheath to insert the catheter into the venous system. The catheter is fiushed, heparinized, and secured with no absorbable 3-0-suture material (Mauro and Weeks 1998b). [Pg.140]

If balloons are used they are filled with diluted iodine contrast solution, and the dilating procedure is controlled fluoroscopically by noting the stricture effect on the balloon (Fig. 3.18b). For rods there are radio-opaque markers at the tapering tip to guide... [Pg.38]
