Attempts have been made to identify primitive motions from measurements of mechanical and dielectric relaxation (89) and to model the short time end of the relaxation spectrum (90). Methods have been developed recently for calculating the complete dynamical behavior of chains with idealized local structure (91,92). An apparent internal chain viscosity has been observed at high frequencies in dilute polymer solutions which is proportional to solvent viscosity (93) and which presumably appears when the external driving frequency is comparable to the frequency of the primitive rotations (94,95). The beginnings of an analysis of dynamics in the rotational isomeric model have been made (96). However, no general solution applicable for all frequency ranges has been found for chains with realistic local structure. [Pg.27]

TSL is observable in most dielectrics in polymers the sample is commonly irradiated at liquid nitrogen temperature and heated to room temperature at a rate of approximately 3" C/min. TSL emission in many commercial polymers is negligible above room temperature and the information, which can be extracted from a single TSL measurement on the molecular environment of the trapped electrons, is not as precise as from ESR. The TSL spectrum of a polymer may contain both fluorescent and phosphorescent components. TSL provides information about ageing processes and can be used as a method for early recognition of damage in polymers. The efficiency of PEDOT PSS to stabilize individual SWCNTs in water, without the presence of low molar mass surfactants like SDS, has been shown using a UV-Vis spectroscopy method developed by Grossiord et al. This method was used to determine the optimal [PEDOT PSS) SWCNT ratio. The maximum achievable SWCNT exfoliation was achieved with a (PEDOT PSS) SWCNT ratio of 1 4. The final absorbance level observed in UV-Vis absorption spectra of dispersions after completion of the dispersion process was slightly higher for dispersions prepared with PEDOT PSS as compared to control SDS dispersions. This is most likely linked to a change of the dielectric constant value (s) due to the presence of a new medium in the vicinity of the nanotubes (shifts in absorption spectra are possible in a new chemical environment). Assuming 100% SWCNT exfoliation, the value for of the SDS-stabilized SWCNT dispersions, before 7i-plasmon subtraction, was determined to be 46.4 ml mg" cm at 500 nm, which is similar to reported values. It should be kept in mind that the UV-Vis absorbance spectrum of the PEDOT PSS itself is likely to be influenced by the presence of the SWCNTs. This makes quantitative analysis of these spectra impossible since the final absorbance is not simply a summation of the absorbance of the constituents measured independently (unlike exhibited for... [Pg.173]

Another important point of data analysis is to find a relation between the dielectric properties of the electrode-electrolyte interface and its microscopic characteristics. A rigorous treatment of this problem is rather complex and involves large-scale computer calculations. An alternative method is to use semi-phenomenological models which relate the behavior of the dielectric tensor components to different features of the electron spectrum of the system.
