Dextran oligosaccharide

Fig. 2 Solute exclusion curves (static method) for water-swollen cellulosic materials determined with dextran-oligosaccharide series. Solid line never-dried samples. Broken line dried and reswollen samples. Abscissa stands for the Stokes diameter of polymers on the logarithmic scale (molecular weight is indicated on the top line), and ordinate the amount of water inaccessible to the solute divided by the dry weight of gel. (Reproduced from ref. 18 with permission.)... Fig. 2 Solute exclusion curves (static method) for water-swollen cellulosic materials determined with dextran-oligosaccharide series. Many polystyrene fractions are available as probe polymer in nonaqueous systems. For aqueous systems, we can use the dextran-oligosaccharide series and poly(ethy1ene oxide) - polyethylene glycol series (polymers that are substantially neutral and with which there will be little possibility of adsorption or conformational change due to the presence of electrolytes). For the latter polymers, the relations between the Stokes radius and molecular weight have been collected as in Fig. 6. [Pg.167]

Examples of studies on specific peptides and proteins in membranes are an SS NMR investigation of the selective disruption of lipid membranes by p-hairpin antimicrobial peptide protegrin-1 in multinuclear mixed lipid layer PG and PC +/ cholesterol MAS/NMR studies of apolipoprotein A1 mimetic peptides in PC membranes with cholesterol with a comparison of the interactions of two 18-mers with the same composition but different sequence with the membrane the peptide sequence GSSSGRGDSPA having a hydrophobic extender to the N-terminus was studied with dextran oligosaccharides and hexyl ligands boimd onto a polyvinylamine backbone to mimic interactions at the ECM. ... [Pg.397]

Even though the short oligosaccharide segment made of seven units may not be considered as a true polymer chain, the chemistry devised by them should be easily applicable to longer saccharidic chains. Liu and Zhang used the Michael reaction for coupling a dextran (Dex) with an amino-functionalized terminal and acrylolyl end-capped PCL [146]. Sun et al. also synthesized Dex-b-PCL by disulfide bond formation [147]. [Pg.76]

The same group investigated the separation of fluorescently labled sugars by different CDs as well as linear polysaccharides (dextrin 10, dextran, laminarin, and alginic acid) and oligosaccharides in the presence of borate... [Pg.107]

Anhydro derivatives of mono- and disaccharides have been particularly useful as glycosyl donors and acceptors for the production of dextran-type oligosaccharides [5]. [Pg.87]

A second protein having antidextran activity, J 558 (a,A.), precipitates well with dextrans containing high proportions of a-D-(l — 3)-linked D-glucopyranosyl residues.49 Confirmation of this specificity comes from the observation that oligosaccharides in the nigerose series are excellent inhibitors. Kojibiose and isomaltose are very... [Pg.338]

In addition to their important roles as stored fuels (starch, glycogen, dextran) and as structural materials (cellulose, chitin, peptidoglycans), polysaccharides and oligosaccharides are information carriers they serve as destination labels for some proteins and as mediators of specific cell-cell interactions and interactions between cells and the extracellular matrix. Specific carbohydrate-containing molecules act in cell-cell recognition and... [Pg.255]

Low molecular weight gadolinium chelating agents have been coupled to high molecular weight polymers whether natural [22] (proteins such as HSA) or artificial [23] (polyaminoacids like polylysine, oligosaccharides such as dextrans, dendrimers). [Pg.129]

Dextransucrase, which characteristically converts sucrose to dextran plus D-fructose, is capable of acting similarly on certain other oligosaccharides.63 1 However, this range of substrates does not include plante-ose, even though planteose has an unsubstituted a-D-glucopyranosyl moiety. [Pg.158]
