Development areas

A lively and optimistic survey of a new breed of businessmen who are breaking away from huge companies to form dynamic enterprises in microelectronics, biotechnology and other developing areas. 

The following section outlines some of the current environmental concerns in the world s mature oil and gas development areas. 

The methods and means for ecological diagnostics make rapid strides among all the NDT and TD developing areas. To provide the atmosphere monitoring recently the good results were achieved in the development of surface-acoustics wave sensors (SAW), laser measuring systems, infrared detectors and systems based on other physical principles. 

In the United States, the Committee on Nomenclature of the American Chemical Society is the clearinghouse for nomenclature recommendations and adoptions, aided by various divisional nomenclature committees of the Society. Close Faison is maintained with the various nomenclature bodies of lUPAC. Progress is being made not only in improved nomenclature, but also in the extension of nomenclature recommendations to newly developing areas of chemistry. 

Very recently, the scientific interests of several leading theoretical laboratories have turned to studies of quenched-annealed fluids. To the best of our knowledge, there has not been a comprehensive review of the theoretical studies of quenched-annealed fluid systems. Our intention in this chapter is to fill, at least partially, an existing vacuum. Evidently, it is impossible to discuss the state of the art in this rapidly developing area in every detail in a single paper with restricted dimensions. We will omit, for example, the discussion of the fundamentals of the replica method for lattice systems, referring the reader to a monograph [1]. 

The theory of quenched-annealed fluids is a rapidly developing area. In this chapter we have attempted to present some of the issues already solved and to discuss only some of the problems that need further study. Undoubtedly there remains much room for theoretical developments. On the other hand, accumulation of the theoretical and simulation results is required for further progress. Of particular importance are the data for thermodynamics and phase transitions in partly quenched, even quite simple systems. The studies of the models with more sophisticated interactions and model complex fluids, closer to the systems of experimental focus and of practical interest, are of much interest and seem likely to be developed in future.

A composite asphaltic mastic filled with high-density aggregate is now available as a combined insulation and weight coating, and this could be the development area in this field.

At the origin of this abundance of publications on iV-heterocyclic carbenes is the structural ligand diversity now available (Fig. 1.2). This developing area is noteworthy as most early developments were mainly focused on imidazolylidene and imidazo-lidinylidene NHC-types. 

In certain areas, particularly the rapidly developing area of organo-metalhc spedation, concern has been expressed that artifacts may lead to false results. Colon cancer occurs at a much higher rate in industrialized parts of the world such as North America and Europe, whereas the lowest rates are seen in less-developed areas, suggesting that environmental and dietary factors influence the development of colon cancer.2 In addition to these environmental factors, colon cancers are known to develop more frequently in certain families, and genetic predisposition to this cancer is well known.

An important developing area that lies in the region between polymer chemistry, ceramic science, and metals, involves the search for new electrically-conducting solids. Linear polymers may conduct electricity by electronic or ionic mechanisms. As will be discussed, polyphosphazenes have been synthesized that, depending on the side group structure, conduct by either of these two processes.
