Springs design

Throughout this book as the viscoelastic behavior of plastics has been described it has been shown that deformations are dependent on such factors as the time under load and the temperature. Therefore, when structural components are to be designed using plastics it must be remembered that the standard equations that are available (such as in Figs. 3-1 and 3-2) for designing springs, beams, plates, and cylinders, and so on have all been derived under the assumptions that (1) the strains are small, (2) the modulus is constant, (3) the strains are independent of the loading rate or history and are immediately re-... [Pg.132]

The inlet and outlet portions of the valves are hydrostatically tested with water at the appropriate pressures required by the applicable section of the ASME code. Set pressure and seat leakage tests are performed with steam using a pro-rated spring. Final set pressure tests are conducted using the final design springs with either high pressure steam or low pressure steam and an assist device. [Pg.338]

Load-ceU performance is limited by properties such as nonlinearity, hysteresis, and creep, which are inherent to the particular design or spring element material. [Pg.327]

Most laboratory and shop-use Rockwell hardness testers are nonportable, lever operated, deadweight machines. Newer versions have digital readouts rather than the traditional analogue dial. Some designs of Rockwell testers employ a spring-loading system instead of deadweights. [Pg.465]

An expandable anode involves compression of the anode stmcture using cHps during cell assembly so as not to damage the diaphragm already deposited on the cathode (Eig. 3a). When the cathode is in position on the anode base, 3-mm diameter spacers are placed over the cathode and the cHps removed from the anode. The spring-actuated anode surfaces then move outward to bear on the spacers, creating a controlled 3-mm gap between anode and cathode (Eig. 3b). This design has also been appHed to cells for the production of sodium chlorate (22). [Pg.122]

Materials and Reactions. Candle systems vary in mechanical design and shape but contain the same genetic components (Fig. 1). The candle mass contains a cone of material high in iron which initiates reaction of the soHd chlorate composite. Reaction of the cone material is started by a flash powder train fired by a spring-actuated hammer against a primer. An electrically heated wire has also been used. The candle is wrapped in insulation and held in an outer housing that is equipped with a gas exit port and rehef valve. Other elements of the assembly include gas-conditioning filters and chemicals and supports for vibration and shock resistance (4). [Pg.484]

Pressure reducing valves should be of steel constmction, designed for minimum and maximum operation conditions. Pressure gauges should be of ak-kon constmction. Pressure rehef valves should be of the spring-loaded type. Rupture disks may be used only as auxkiary equipment. Differential pressure measurements using mercury manometers should be avoided in ammonia service. [Pg.354]

Other Technologies. Ethylbenzene can be recovered from mixed Cg aromatics by superfractionation. This technology was first practiced by Cosden Oil Chemical Company in 1957 (Big Spring, Texas), based on a design developed jointly with The Badger Company. Several superfractionation... [Pg.480]

Temper. The system for designating material condition, whether the product form is strip, rod, or wine, is defined in ASTM Recommended Practice B601 (1). The ASTM system uses an alpha-numeric code for each of the standard temper designations. This system replaces the historical terminology of half hard, hard, spring, etc. Table 3 summarizes temper designations. [Pg.218]
