Design process, engineering concept stage

All in all, the flowsheet editor FEW is a promising new approach to chemical process design in the early stages because it offers new, meaningful functions and integrates different tools. However, without improving the interaction-related usability issues, the task-related new concept cannot be evaluated in a realistic scenario with experienced chemical process engineers. 

To serve as a reference, an example of a pohcy/procedure statement on safety in the design process follows. Its intent is to announce that hazards are to be addressed during early design concept stages, and as an integral part of a concurrent engineering program. 

The concept of Safety in the Design Process requires a coordinated effort between the engineering and the safety, health, and environmental communities. Our bulletin xyz establishes when safety, health, and environmental studies are necessary in the consideration of new products, technology, and manufacturing processes. Please review current and future programs to ensure that safety, health, and environmental issues are considered in the early stages of concept and design. 

Other organizations and writers have also developed engineering design process flowcharts. Most of these flowcharts have similar characteristics. ITEAs 12 components are explained in three stages concept, development, and evaluation. Each stage contains four design steps.
