Dermatitis antiperspirants

There have been several cases of allergic contact dermatitis after the use of antiperspirants containing triclocarban and propylene glycol (4). [Pg.3489]

A1 is a component of many consumer products, including antacids (that are also used as phosphate binders), buffered aspirin products and antiperspirants. Many deodorant stones are alum. A1 is found in some acne cleaning preparations and in dentifrices as an abrasive in dental rinses and toothpastes to reduce dentinal hypersensitivity products for dermatitis as an astringent first aid antibiotics and antiseptics, diaper rash and prickly heat, insect sting and bite, sunscreen and suntan and dry skin products antidiarrheal products and vaginal douches (Knodel et al. 1996). Zirconium compounds have been widely used in deodorant-antiperspirants and in topical preparations for Rhus dermatitis. They caused numerous cases of charac-... [Pg.323]

Triclocarban or trichlorcarbanilide (TCC) has been subjected to extensive predictive testing and battery screening in dermatitis patients to disclose its dermatitis potential. It was found to be minimal. The use of this bacteriostatic agent is now restricted to bar soap. Few cases of triclocarban-associated contact dermatitis have been described after use of the chemical in antiperspirants and cosmetics (ICDRG 1978). [Pg.342]

According to Agren-Jonsson and Magnus-sen (29 -) most cases of allergic axillary dermatitis seen at the Department of Dermatology of Lund (Sweden) developed after the use of Ercotina Derm (Ercoril Lotion). This antiperspirant and deodorant contains propantheline bromide 5% and trichloro-carbanilide (TCC) 0.25% in a vehicle consisting of propylene glycol 90% and water 4.75%. [Pg.135]

Allergic contact dermatitis caused by Irgasan DP 300 in 2 persons was reported by Roed-Petersen et al. (36 ). One patient was sensitized by Irgasan 0.2% in a deodorant foot powder and the other by a deodorant stick containing 0.12% Irgasan. Patch tests were performed with Irgasan DP 300 in a concentration of 2% in petrolatum. Another case caused by a deodorant/antiperspirant spray Body mist has been reported by Hindson (37 ). [Pg.135]
