Defects signaling

Because the system is meant to be used for a variety of heat exchangers we could not use a simple (ANN) classifier, but we chose for a CBR type system. The case-base stores signal shapes with corresponding classifications or actions to be taken (e.g. signal mixing). Beftxe each inspection the case-base is filled with data from calibration pipes oc a case-base from a previous similar inspection can be used. For each new possible defect signal a search is done in the case base for the most similar case. [Pg.102]

The instrument uses a sinusoidal driver. The spectrum is very clean as we use a 14 bits signal generator. The probe signal is modulated in amplitude and phase by a defect signal. The demodulation is intended to extract the cartesian values X and Y of this modulation. [Pg.280]

To realize an automatic evaluation system, it would be desirable to also suppress geometrically caused signals as well, so that only the actual defect signals are obtained. Several approaches have already been made which are also to be implemented as part of a SQUID research project (SQUID = Super Conducting Quantum Interference Device). [Pg.310]

The field distribution itself gives information about the location where the detector coil or coils should be placed. It can however be used as a basis for the calculation of defect signals... [Pg.318]

Now, we can make the comparison beween the real defect signal and the simulated one which have been computed by solving the linearized direct problem. The measurements were made at 300,150,50 kHz. The flaw is a notch of 8mm length, 1mm width, and 1mm depth. Representative data (300 kHz) for the notch-shaped flaw are shown in Fig. 3. [Pg.329]

Up to now the Reference Block Method and the DGS-Method are world wide the most important techniques for evaluating defect signals in manual Ultrasonic Testing. Even today, individual national standards refer to either one of these two echo evaluation techniques. However, both reflected echo signals from natural defects are compared with an echo from a known reference reflector at the same distance. The result of the evaluation is either... [Pg.812]

The ultrasonic system comprises two scanners and one control console and was designed and constructed by Risley Nuclear Laboratories of the UKAEA. The design intention was for defect signals to be reported and sized in accordance with ASME XI code requirements for the 50 mm thick vessel shell. Weld profiles of the main seam welds were used to define probe angles and movements and a novel permeable membrane, irrigated by water at a rate of 0.04 litres / hour was developed to provide the necessary ultrasonic coupling. The main features of the scanners and the control console are as follows. [Pg.393]

Some time ago. Sales and co-workers observed the ESR spectra of ancient bones before and after heating (24). All the ancient bone samples that they studied were at least 7500 years old, and most were older than 300,000 years. In these, aside from resonances that were due to transition metal ions in the bone, the spectra were dominated by the defect signal that is produced by radiation damage to the mineral component of the bone, and which is the signal that is used to date bone and tooth material. This signal is not observable in bone or tooth that is less than about 30,000 years old (24). The temperature dependence of the spectra from the samples that Sales and co-workers observed presumably represents the temperature dependence of the spectrum of this defect. [Pg.159]
