Decorating roll

Polyethylene parts are decorated by silk screening, hot stamping, or dry offset printing. For satisfactory printing, the surface must be oxidized by hot air, flame, chlorination, sulfunc acid-dichromate solution, or electronic bombardment. Hot air or flame methods are used with molded parts flame or electronic methods with films. Inks specially made for polyethylene give best results. Roll-leaf hot stamping does not require pretreatment of the suifaoe. [Pg.1339]

Lay-up proceeds by laying down the veneer which is to be the back surface of the panel. Then a sufficient number of pieces of core veneer are passed through the glue spreader to form the next layer of cross-oriented veneer. The glue spreader commonly used in hardwood plywood manufacture is a roll coater in which a pair of opposing mbber rolls are coated with a thin layer of adhesive. As the veneer is passed between the rolls, the adhesive is transferred to the surfaces of the veneer. Adhesive is applied only to the cross-plies and in sufficient quantity to provide a continuous layer on both opposing faces of veneer. Thus, in the case of a three-ply panel, only the core layer is spread with adhesive and in that of a five-ply panel, the second and fourth layers both of which are cross-plies, are spread with adhesive. Then the top surface veneer, which is normally the decorative surface, is placed on the assembly. [Pg.382]

With an elastic texture and a taste similar to that of Tootsie Rolls, the dough rolls out thin, so it s easy to cut out shapes with cookie cutters or to make animals, robots, or any other figures, such asfowers and balls. Obviously drawing puts a severe strain on the metal sheet, and the amount of distortion which can be tolerated depends on the thickness of the metal and the ability of the surface finish, e.g. tinplate coating or decoration, to adhere firmly to the base metal. The containers produced by drawing are relatively shallow with a maximum depth up to half the diameter if circular. Metal screw caps and aluminium roll-on cap shells are also produced by the same process. [Pg.292]
