Cenozoic volcanic rocks also occur on the Antarctic Peninsula and on the islands off its west coast (e.g.. Deception Island Faure et al. 1971) and on Gaussberg on the coast of East Antarctica (Section 1.3.3). All of the Cenozoic volcanoes on the Antarctic plate were individually described in a book edited by W.E. LeMasurier and J.W. Thomson assisted by PE. Baker, PR. Kyle, P.D. Rowley, J.L. Smellie, and W.J. Verwoerd. This book is an excellent source of authoritative information about all aspects of the geology of the Cenozoic volcanoes on the mainland of Antarctica and on the associated islands in the Southern Oceans (LeMasurier and Thomson 1990).
