The ultimate goal in organic synthesis will be mix and adding up of reaction components with anything else needed only catalytically and with minimal loss of atoms [95]. It is better to prevent waste than to treat or dean up waste after it has been created [96]. From the examples that we described in this chapter, we can indeed conclude that MCRs satisfy intrinsically the criteria of green chemistry and should therefore find application in many areas where chemistry plays the key role. [Pg.152]

The isolated metaUacydobutane worrld also undergo exchange with an olefin and provided a model for metathesis and a dean system for systematic mechanistic study. The Tebbe reagent also readed with carbonyl compormds such as ketones and esters to exchange an oxygen from the organic for the methylene of the complex. This reaction has become an often rrsed transformation for organic synthesis. ... [Pg.21]

The process of acid-catalysed esterification in the presence of benzene, or, better, of toluene, is greatly facilitated if the water produced in the reaction is removed by distillation in a Dean and Stark water separation unit. This allows the separation and removal of water from the azeotrope, the organic phase being returned continuously to the reaction flask. Examples are provided in Expt 5.145. These include examples of the synthesis of esters where either the alcohol... [Pg.696]

In studies on the FAEE synthase enzyme, it was demonstrated by Tsujita and Okuda that carboxylesterase is capable of catalyzing the FAEE synthesis reaction (Tsujita, 1992 Tsujita, 1994b). They demonstrated that purified carboxylesterase was able to promote the synthesis of FAEEs in a number of organs. In support of the findings of Tsujita et al., who showed that carboxylesterase can promote the synthesis of FAEE, we reported that purified FAEE synthase also has cocaethylene (an esterification product of ethanol and cocaine) synthetic capacity (Heith, 1995). Cocaethylene synthase, like FAEE synthase, has been shown to have carboxylesterase activity (Dean, 1991), linking FAEE synthesis again to carboxylesterase. [Pg.298]
