Dead Sea Bromine Group

The Brominated Flame Retardants Industry Panel (BFRIP) was formed ia 1985 within the Flame Retardant Chemicals Association (FRCA) to address such concerns about the use of decabromodiphenyl oxide. Siace 1990 the BFRIP has operated as a Chemical Self-Funded Technical Advocacy and Research (CHEMSTAR) panel within the Chemical Manufacturers Association (CMA) (64). As of 1993, members of BFRIP are Ak2o, Amerihaas (Dead Sea Bromine Group), Ethyl Corp., and Great Lakes Chemical. Siace its formation, BFRIP has presented updates to iadustry on a regular basis (65,66), and has pubhshed a summary of the available toxicity information on four of the largest volume brominated flame retardants (67,68) tetrabromo bisphenol A, pentabromodiphenyl oxide, octabromodiphenyl oxide, and decabromodiphenyl oxide. This information supplements that summarized ia Table 11. [Pg.472]

During experiments carried out at the Research and Development Division of the Dead Sea Bromine Group it was found that HBCD indeed decomposes at temperatures above 220 °C as reported in the literature (ref. 4) however it was also found that at temperatures below 2(X)°C thermal rearrangement takes place in a reaction not reported heretofore in the literature. [Pg.93]

The application of FR-1206-HS ex Dead Sea Bromine Group provides longer residence time at 230°C without discoloration than the commercial heat-stabilized HBCD. The application of heat-stabilized FR-1206 was further developed by its use in fire retardant polypropylene (ref. 4). The new heat-stabilized HBCD, FR-1206/46, provides polypropylene with even better heat stability than FR-1206-HS (Table 4). [Pg.329]

We wish to thank the Dead Sea Bromine Group and The Hebrew University of Jerusalem for the Organization of Orgabrom 93. Particular thanks are due to Doctor Meir Englert, President of the organizing committee, Professor Yoel Sasson, President of the scientific committee, and to Mrs Rickie Raz for her valuable work in organizing the secretariat. [Pg.435]

We wish to thank the Dead Sea Bromine Group also for the material support that made the Orgabrom 93 congress possible. [Pg.435]

Bis(bromomethyl)propane-l,3-diol is currently available with a purity of 98.5% (Ameribrom, 1996 Dead Sea Bromine Group, 1998). 2,2- Bis(bromomethyl)-propane-l,3-diol was available earlier as a technical product with a purity of 79%. Several impurities were identified in the technical product 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)-l-bromo-3-hydrox ropane, 2,2-bis(bromomethyl)-l-bromo-3-hydroxypropane and pentaerythritol (National Toxicology Program, 1996). [Pg.456]
