Cyanoacrylate bonding polychloroprene

Cyanoacrylates bond well to nitrile, polychloroprene and natural rubbers and fast bonding times can be achieved with ethyl cyanoacrylates (see also Section 10.1). Mould release agents however, can sometimes affect the adhesion and further practical guidelines are given in Section 10.12. [Pg.277]

An adhesive may be defined as a material which when applied to surfaces of materials can join them together and resist separation. Adhesive is the general term and includes cement, glue, paste, etc. and these terms are all used essentially interchangeably. Various descriptive adjectives are often applied to indicate certain characteristics. For example, to indicate the physical form of the adhesive, e.g. liquid adhesive, liquid two-part adhesive, film adhesive its chemical form, e.g. epoxy adhesive, cyanoacrylate adhesive, polychloroprene adhesive to indicate the type of materials bonded, e.g. metahto-metal adhesive, paper adhesive, wood adhesive or to show the conditions of use, e.g. solvent based adhesive, cold-hardening, or -curing, adhesive, hot-melt adhesive. [Pg.1]

Polymeric materials are commonly used for bonding materials. Impact or contact adhesives are mainly based on highly crystalline polychloroprene (Neoprene), NR latex is used as a flexible adhesive very suitable for use with fabrics. Rigid adhesives based on materials such as polystyrene cement, epoxy resin or cyanoacrylates are suitable for bonding of rigid materials. Polychloroprene, nitrile, natural rubber (polyisoprene), styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) and butyl are amongst the types of rubber that can be readily bonded with cyanoacrylates. Ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) and fluroelastomers (Viton, registered trade mark of DuPont) can also be bonded, although only with specific grades of cyanoacrylate. Silicone rubber and thermoplastic rubber (Santoprene, registered trade mark of Advanced Elastomer Systems) can be bonded with the aid of a primer.
