Cutting particle

Or, if a proper solvent is chosen, particulate assemblies of block copolymer can be obtained in it. They will be directly cross-linked. The length and density of hairs of particles were adjusted by postreactions. For example, long hairy particles could be converted to crew-cut particles. [Pg.656]

When cast-iron is fractured, it exhibits a grey color, sometimes approaching to dull-white, and, in other cases, to dark-grey, with spots nearly black. The lustra is sometimes motallic, resembling froshly-cut particles of lead lying on the surface and, in. other cases, there seems to ha crystals in the Iron disposed in rays. [Pg.431]

Earlier on when we described the cutting action of the drill bit we learned about the drilling fluid or mud. The mud cools the bit and also removes the cuttings by carrying them up the hole outside the drill pipe. At the surface the mud runs over a number of moving screens, the shale shakers (Fig. 3.11) which remove the cutting for disposal. The fine particles which pass through the screens are then removed by desanders and desilters, usually hydrocyclones. [Pg.39]

Each newly cleaved mica surface is very clean. Flowever, it is known that mica has a strong tendency to spontaneously adsorb particles [45] or organic contaminants [46], which may affect subsequent measurements. The mica sheets are cut into 10 nun x 10 nun sized samples using a hot platinum wire, then laid down onto a thick and clean 100 nun x 100 nun mica backing sheet for protection. On the backing sheet, the mica samples can be transferred into a vacuum chamber for themial evaporation of typically 50-55 mn thick silver mirrors. [Pg.1733]

The highest G-ratios are obtained when grinding with straight oil coolants. Such oils reduce power, increase maximum depth of cut, and produce smoother finishes. Disadvantages include inabiUty to remove heat from the work, oil mist in the work area, fire hazard, and tendency to hold grinding swarf (fine metal chips and abrasive particles produced in the grinding process) in suspension. Reference 51 is an excellent survey article for grinding fluids. [Pg.16]

For smaller particles, the theory indicates that efficiency decreases according to the dotted line of Figure 7. Experimental data (134) (sofld line of Eig. 7) for a cyclone of Eig. 9 dimensions show that equation 15 tends to overstate collection efficiency for moderately coarse particles and understate efficiency for the finer fraction. The concept of particle cut-size, defined as the size of particle collected with 50% mass efficiency, determined by equation 16 has been proposed (134). [Pg.395]
