Cure index

Nevertheless, with the development of new sensors, microdielectrometry constitutes a nondestructive and convenient method for monitoring in situ and in real time the cure of thermosets (Senturia et al., 1982 Kranbuehl et al., 1986). Great efforts have been made and research is still going on to establish relationships between (i) cure index and actual conversion of reactive groups, (ii) conductivity and viscosity, and iii) conductivity and glass transition temperature, in order to obtain models for smart processing. 

A lower cure index represents a faster cure rate. There is a limit, however, to the cure information that a Mooney scorch test can provide as the cure advances beyond rix (for a small rotor) and (for a large rotor). This is because as the specimen cures and builds a cross-linked matrix, it loses flow properties and begins to slip and tear on the rotor [95].

Mooney Viscosity, Mooney Scorch, Cure Index - The Mooney Viscometer is widely used throughout the rubber industry as a standard instrument for determining the relative viscosity of rubber and rubber-like materials in the raw or compounded (but uncured) state. It is also used for determining the curing characteristics of vulcanizable compoimds. The viscometer measures the force, or torque, required to rotate a metal disk, or rotor, within a shallow cylindrical cavity filled with rubber compound (ASTM D-1646). 

The major use of vinylpyrrohdinone is as a monomer in manufacture of poly(vinylpyrrohdinone) (PVP) homopolymer and in various copolymers, where it frequendy imparts hydrophilic properties. When PVP was first produced, its principal use was as a blood plasma substitute and extender, a use no longer sanctioned. These polymers are used in pharmaceutical and cosmetic appHcations, soft contact lenses, and viscosity index improvers. The monomer serves as a component in radiation-cured polymer compositions, serving as a reactive diluent that reduces viscosity and increases cross-linking rates (see... 

Properties and Applieations. Aryloxyphosphazene elastomers using phenoxy and J-ethylphenoxy substituents have found interest in a number of appHcations involving fire safety. This elastomer has a limiting oxygen index of 28 and contains essentially no halogens. It may be cured using either peroxide or sulfur. Peroxide cures do not require the allyhc cute monomer. This is a resin-rich system. The stator is wound with pre-formed coils on similar lines as noted above. After thorough testing on each coil for the polarization index and dissipation factor (tan S), as discussed in Sections 9.5 and 9.6, and the impulse voltage withstand test, as discussed in Section 11.4.9, the individual coils are completely cured and toughened before inserting them into the slots. As an example, a foam prepared from III, alumina trihydrate as a filler, benzoyl peroxide as a curing agent, and azobis formamide as a blowing agent, leads to a material with an oxygen index of 48, a long-term stability to at least 150 °C, and a smoke density about one fifth that of a commercial foam [284]. 

Generally, when treating a sexually transmitted infection (STI), the index patient should be provided with a sufficient quantity of medication for the partner to be treated, increasing the probability that the initial infection will be cured in both patients.

Diffuse large B-cell lymphomas are the most common lymphoma in patients of all ages but most commonly seen in the seventh decade. Extranodal disease is present at diagnosis in 30% to 40% of patients. The International Prognostic Index score correlates with prognosis. Diffuse aggressive lymphomas are sensitive to chemotherapy with cure achieved in some patients. 

All three of these new AmB formulations improve the therapeutic index of the drug considerably compared with Fungizone. Larger cumulative doses can be given, leading to cures that were hitherto impossible. However, they are expensive and thus inaccessible in developing countries where their use would be of most benefit (13).
