Crystallizer, mixed

A semi-open impeller has exposed blades, but with a support plate or shroud on one side. Some people prefer the name semi-enelosed. These types of impeller are generally used for liquids with a small percentage of solid particles like sediment from the bottom of a tank or river, or crystals mixed with the liquid (Figure 6-17). [Pg.71]

However, if the dispersion is small, as in the case, for example, of GaAs and InP crystals mixed in the 004 reflections as reference and specimen, the rocking ciuve simply broadens. Then to a reasonable approximation, one can simulate this by adding a curvature equal to the angrrlar separation of the K 1 and K 2 Bragg angles. [Pg.119]

CRYSTAL (Mixed). A crystal consisting of two or more chemical compounds, which may have the same positive radical or the same negative radical, and which, in their pure form, are isomorphous. i.e., have the same crystal form. [Pg.462]

The former is deposited in yellow crystals, mixed with sulphur when acetoxime is treated with phosphorus pentasulphide in carbon bisulphide soln. the insoluble product extracted with alcohol and the alcoholic soln. heated to boiling the compound separates from cold water in large, transparent, seemingly monoclinic prisms, melts at 146° 150° with decomposition, and is readily soluble in water, but only sparingly in alcohol, and insoluble in ether and carbon bisulphide. It decomposes carbonates, gives a colourless precipitate with lead acetate, and is decomposed by hot dilute nitric acid with separation of sulphur and formation of phosphoric acid it is also decomposed by mercuric oxide, the filtrate from the precipitated mercury sulphide giving all the reactions of phosphoric acid. [Pg.1069]

The leaves are exhausted with 85% alcohol and acidulated with 2% of sulfuric acid the tincture is treated with milk of lime and filtered the filtrate is neutralized with sulfuric acid, and the alcohol distilled off. The syrupy residue is treated with water to separate resin and then precipitated by sodium carbonate. The deposited matter is exhausted by ether, and the etheral solution, after most of the ether has been distilled, is allowed to evaporate spontaneously. The cocaine is thus obtained in colorless crystals, mixed with a yellowish-brown matter of a disagreeable odor, which is separated by washing with cold alcohol. [Pg.256]

G. Bruni has very well shown this opinion to be inadmissible. We may, in fact, apply to the systems we are studying the theorems of Gibbs and of Konovalow (Art. 194), and particularly the first. It suffices to substitute for the words mixed liquid, mixed vapor, the words mixed crystals, mixed liquid. [Pg.273]

Finally, Class D fires involve burning metals. These fires cannot be extinguished with CO2 or water because these compounds may react with some hot metals. For these fires, nonreactive dry powders are used to cover the metal and to keep it separate from oxygen. One kind of powder contains finely ground sodium chloride crystals mixed with a special polymer that allows the crystals to adhere to any surface, even a vertical one. [Pg.308]
