The reactor module components are contained within three steel pressure vessels the reactor vessel, a steam generator vessel, and connecting cross-vessel. The uninsulated steel reactor pressure vessel is approximately the same size as that of a large boiling water reactor (BWR) and contains the core, reflector, and associated supports. The annular reactor core and the surrounding graphite reflectors are supported on a steel core support plate at the lower end of the reactor vessel. Top-mounted penetrations house the control-rod drive mechanisms and the hoppers containing boron carbide pellets for reserve shutdown. [Pg.210]

Velocity of a vessel does not depend on parameter t as we assume that in considered distance of lanes crossing vessels move with constant velocity. However we can consider extension of presented model by taking into account speed interval for each type of vessel and observing some speed alteration while vessel movement with assumed a priori lower and upper bound. [Pg.266]

The basic fluid-bed unit consists of a refractory-lined vessel, a perforated plate that supports a bed of granular material and distributes air, a section above the fluid bed referred to as freeboard, an air blower to move air through the unit, a cyclone to remove all but the smallest particulates and return them to the fluid bed, an air preheater for thermal economy, an auxiUary heater for start-up, and a system to move and distribute the feed in the bed. Air is distributed across the cross section of the bed by a distributor to fluidize the granular soflds. Over a proper range of airflow velocities, usually 0.8-3.0 m/s, the sohds become suspended in the air and move freely through the bed. [Pg.46]

Zirconium is used as a containment material for the uranium oxide fuel pellets in nuclear power reactors (see Nuclearreactors). Zirconium is particularly usehil for this appHcation because of its ready availabiUty, good ductiUty, resistance to radiation damage, low thermal-neutron absorption cross section 18 x 10 ° ra (0.18 bams), and excellent corrosion resistance in pressurized hot water up to 350°C. Zirconium is used as an alloy strengthening agent in aluminum and magnesium, and as the burning component in flash bulbs. It is employed as a corrosion-resistant metal in the chemical process industry, and as pressure-vessel material of constmction in the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes. [Pg.426]
