Cross 1 inking

Figure l-3a illustrates the response of an elastomer sample to the application and removal of a load at different temperatures. The sample here is assumed to be cross-1 inked, so that the polymer does not deform permanently under stress. [Pg.24]

The relationship between vitamin K and blood clotting is as follows. Generation of the blood dot, which is composed of cross-linkrxl platelets and cross-1 inked fibrin, is dependent on the activity of a number of proteins. Some of these proteins are vitamin K-dependent proteins. This means that a vitamin K-dependent roac-... [Pg.527]

Effect of sulfur amino acids. Lysinoalanine and related cross-1 inked amino acids may be derived from reaction of lysine with dehydroalanine residues formed by elimination reactions from serine, cystine, and possibly cysteine residues in proteins. Threonine residues can, in principle, react similarly to form methylated homo-logues (Friedman, 1977). The double bond of dehydroalanine, which... [Pg.378]

The nucleophilic addition reaction of urea to formaldehyde produces mainly monomethylol urea and some dimethylol urea. When the mixture is heated in presence of an acid, condensation occurs, and water is released. This is accompanied by the formation of a cross inked polymer ... [Pg.349]

Due to the presence of residual double bonds, the polymer could be cross inked with regular agents. TPR is a linear polymer with a high trans configuration. It is highly amorphous at normal temperatures and has a Tg of about 90°C and a density of 0.85. [Pg.358]

Resist films of approximately 0.5ym thickness were spun on silicon wafers and cross inked by baking either in an oven or on a hotplate. Incremental exposures were made by a JEOL JBX6A2 electron beam machine at 20 keV. The UV flood exposures were carried out under nitrogen using a 185nm UV lamp. UV dosimetry was carried out on the basis of exposure time which had previously been correlated with the equivalent electron beam exposure by measuring dissolution rates. [Pg.88]

Absorption of solvent causes the polymer to swell. Within a swollen polymer, the pressure acting on the solvent is greater than the atmospheric pressure, Pq. The excess pressure ir caused by the elastic forces of a cross inked polymer (crystalline domains act as effective crosslinks) raises the chemical potential of the solvent Ms within the polymer phase. The condition of equilibrium is... [Pg.174]

The polymerization of noncoiijugated diene monomers might be expected to afford polymer chains with pendant unsatiiration and ultimately, on further reaction of these groups, cross inked insoluble polymer networks. Thus, the finding by Butler et al, that polymerizations of diallylammonium salts, of general structure 8 [e.g. diallyldimethylammonium chloride (9)] gave linear saturated polymers, was initially considered surprising. [Pg.186]

Polymerization. Thermal polymerization or curing of an ink film at elevated temperatures can foUow many different chemical paths. Condensation and cross-linking reactions may be accompHshed with or without the use of catalysts. However, this method of drying generally has not been widely used for printing inks, except those used for metal and glass decoration, and some clear coatings. [Pg.247]

Preformed Two-Piece Metal Containers. Ink vehicles for letterset printing of two-piece aluminum or steel containers are mainly based on special polyester vehicles used in conjunction with melamine cross-linkers. Short cycle ovens which dry inks in 1—5 seconds are now used and operate at temperatures as high as 350 °C. The rheology of these inks must be adjusted to the unique geometry of the press. Desired rheological properties are achieved by the use of additives as weU as extender pigments. [Pg.250]

For aqueous inks, the resins are water- or alkali-soluble or dispersible and the solvent is mosdy water containing sufficient alcohol (as much as 25%) to help solubilize the resin. To keep the alkah-soluble resin in solution, pH must be maintained at the correct level. Advances include the development of uv inks. These are high viscosity inks that require no drying but are photocurable by uv radiation. In these formulations, the solvent is replaced by monomers and photoinitiators that can be cross-linked by exposure to uv radiation. The advantage of this system is the complete elimination of volatile organic compounds (VOC) as components of the system and better halftone print quaUty. Aqueous and uv inks are becoming more popular as environmental pressure to reduce VOC increases. [Pg.50]

For ink vehicles based on hydroxyl group containing binders such as nitrocellulose and cellulose acetate, the tetraalkyl titanates cross-link the binder prematurely, limiting the storage stabiUty of the printing ink. Chelated organic titanates such as TYZOR AA and TYZOR TE are preferred for use in these cases because they only initiate cross-linking when the ink is heated to temperatures above 80°C (503). [Pg.163]
