Creatinine clinical diagnostics

Clinical/diagnostics For clinical diagnostics, a lot of sensors have been developed for medical diagnosis of various analytes in blood samples like glucose, cholesterol, urea, lactate, uric acid, creatinine, both qualitatively and quantitatively. To detect... [Pg.450]

The urine of patients with gargoylism, of both the autosomal recessive and sex-linked types, contains abnormally high amounts of acid mucopolysaccharides. Determination (T2) of the acid mucopolysaccharides in urine in relationship to preformed creatinine is useful in distinguishing certain cases of gargoylism from other conditions with which they are sometimes clinically confused (e.g., cretinism and chondro-osteo-dystrophies of the Morquio-Brailsford type). Another simple diagnostic test for gargoylism is based on the presence in the lymphocytes of abnormal inclusions of acid mucopolysaccharides which are revealed by staining (M24). [Pg.219]

The diagnostic approach to the patient with ARF differs depending on the clinical setting in which the kidneys fail. For patients who present to the outpatient clinic or hospital with an elevated serum creatinine, the first objective is to determine if the renal failure is acute or... [Pg.786]

According to the limited number of patients identified so far, the clinical spectrum of GAMT, AGAT and CRTR deficiencies includes mental retardation as main symptom. Further recognition of patients with defects in creatine synthesis will be of major importance as affected patients may substantially benefit from oral creatine substitution. Determination of guanidinoacetate, creatine and creatinine in body fluids and determination of brain creatine by in vivo magnetic resonance spectroscopy are valuable diagnostic tools. [Pg.478]
