CRC dictionary of natural products

The DNP (Chapman HaU/CRC Dictionary of Natural Products) is a comprehensive literature database of around 170 000 isolated natural products from various sources and provides names, chemical structures, CAS registry numbers, extensive source data, uses and applications. [Pg.5]

The CRC Dictionary of Natural Products comprises structures of individual chemicals of which 90% contain either carbocyclic or heterocyclic subunits [452, 453]. Therefore, not surprisingly, the formation of bonds from acyclic precursors in a regio- and stereo-controlled manner is key to the design of the synthesis of cyclic structures and is of prime importance to the architecture required for the construction of complex molecules. The rational design of the cyclization step, known as the Baldwin rules, is historically one of the most widely used in the arsenal of synthetic methods available to organic chemists [7]. Along with the widely used Baldwin rules, the most comprehensive review (1993) focuses on other important points, such as stereoelectronic effects, that are especially important in the formation of five- and six-membered rings [7]. [Pg.249]

The best information source on the names of natural products is the Dictionary of Natural Products (DNP), which is part of the Chapman Hall/CRC chemical database (see Section 1.2.1). DNP does not give CAS names where these are lengthy, but it does have extensive coverage of CAS numbers, from which the current CAS name can be readily obtained if needed. [Pg.93]

Chapman Hall/CRC Chemical Dictionaries — These originally appeared in print form as the Dictionary of Organic Compounds, Dictionary of Natural Products, etc. They are now published in electronic form and are available in DVD format [www.crcpress.com] and on the Internet [www.chemnetbase.com]. The consolidated version, called the Combined Chemical Dictionary, has data on more than 550,000 compounds spanning all branches of chemistry. The coverage includes physical properties, biological sources, hazard information, uses, and literature references. [Pg.2537]

The reference works also include large compilations such as the Dictionary of Natural Products, published since 1994 by Chapman Hall. Seven initial volumes are regularly supplemented - the fourth was published in 1998 - and there is also an electronic version on CD-ROM, the same publisher also published a Dictionary of Steroids (two volumes, 1991). In association with CRC Press, Chapman Hall published in 2007 the Dictionary of Marine Natural Products, ]. Blunt, M.H.G. Munro, Eds, 2536 pp. This dictionary also contains a CD-ROM. [Pg.61]
