Crank amphetamines

These compounds are analogs of the trimethoxy type compounds. They produce a pleasant, euphoric trip, much like a cross between mescaline and crank. The starting material (benzene ring) makes considerable difference in the potency of the final product of this or any other amphetamine. Below is a list of benzenes and their potency in M.U. (mescaline units). Also, the modification to the ring can create, more or less, a psychedelic effect. 

Stimulant drugs commonly abused in the USA include methamphetamine ("crank," "crystal"), methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA, "ecstasy"), and cocaine ("crack") as well as pharmaceuticals such as pseudoephedrine (Sudafed) and ephedrine (as such and in the herbal agent Ma-huang) (see Chapter 32). Caffeine is often added to dietary supplements sold as "metabolic enhancers" or "fat-burners" and is also sometimes combined with pseudoephedrine in underground pills sold as amphetamine substitutes. 

Amphetamine was once used in nasal inhalers but was banned in 1959 because abusers removed the inner filling and chewed it. Now propylhexedrine, with about half the potency of amphetamine, is used. This still causes problems in that some desperate souls will leach the compound from the inhaler s cotton wick and inject the extract (called "crank"). This presents all kinds of...

Produced synthetically, amphetamines (known as uppers ) are stimulants of the central nervous system much like epinephrine, but they also increase cardiovascular activity and depress the appetite. They are sometimes used to bring about weight loss, but they can cause chemical dependency. Methedrine is used to treat depression and in the illegal form is known as crank or crystal meth. The prefix meth means that there is one more CH3— group on the nitrogen atom.
