Court procedures

English, Irish and Scottish law follow an adversary system, in which each side develops its cases and answers the contentions of tiie other. The judge s fxmctions are to ensure that the correct procedures are followed, to clarify ambiguities, and to decide the issue. He may question, but he should not come down into the arena and enter into argument. 

Important changes to the Civil Justice System have been implemented following the Woolf Report Access to Justice (1996). The objectives include
