A drawback of this technique is that, in many situations it is necessary to use a high intensity current in order to determine the ohmic drop contribution to the polarization potential and this may perturb the steady state of the system significantly. Problems of this kind may be encountered, for example, when studying corrosion inhibitors for acid environments characterized by high electric conductivity. 

Organic inhibitors constitute a broad class of corrosive inhibitors that cannot be designated specifically as anodic, cathodic, or ohmic. As a general rule, organic inhibitors affect the entire surface of a corroding metal when present in sufficient concentrations.
