Subsequent studies in our iaboratory (not yet pubiished) have revealed that these exceptionally high y-tocopherol values (obtained via UV-280 nm detection) were not accurate. When we repeated the HPLC analyses using fluorescence detection, the levels of y-tocopherol in corn fiber oil (extracted before and after heat-preatment) were similar to above reported levels in corn germ oil and corn kernel oil (< 500 mg/kg oil). [Pg.803]

Although FFA content of the oil varies considerably depending on the preharvest and postharvest conditions, it is usually in the range of 1-1.5% of the total acyl lipids. Wet milled corn germ oil contains higher FFA content than that of the dry milled oil, 1.5 % and about 2%, respectively (7, 66). The PL content of com germ oil varies with the extraction process. Expelled oil contains about 120 ppm PL as compared with 670 ppm in hexane prepress commercial products (66). [Pg.1573]

Sterols The total phytosterol content (free and esterified phytosterols) of corn germ oil is higher than in most of the other vegetable oUs (3, 70). Com germ oil contains about 1.1% (w/w) phytosterol esters (70). Sitosterol is the major sterol... [Pg.1573]

In relation to Distylium factors research in Distylium racemosum leaves, Prof. Munakata has further studied the provisionally named " Corn factor " from corn germ oil 4). He has examined many plant oils in an effort to obtain a better source of novel plant growth regulators, including coconut oil, corn germ oil, cotton seed oil, linseed oil, olive oil, peanut oil, poppy oil, rape oil, sesame oil, soya oil, and turpentine oil, and found that corn germ oil showed a most remarkable activity in the LJT.
