Perform a fact-based diagnosis. Innovation can feel rather elusive, but in reality there is nothing magical about it. The innovation process can be assessed, like every other core process. Typically, core beliefs about sources of innovation in the company would be identified and challenged with facts and industry benchmarks. Equal attention should be given to the... [Pg.170]

Just as it is not fruitful to view a basketball team as a thing, but rather as a system with interactive components, it is fruitful to view the culture of a social unit as a system made up of four interacting subsystems (Eigure 4.5). A culture/cultural system s ideational subsystem (I) consists of the social unit s characteristic ideational constructs (ideas, values, core beliefs, ideals, worldviews, etc.). Its social subsystem (S) consists of the social unit s characteristic societal forms, (social institutions, social structure, social status system, social groups, societal traditions, social roles, etc.). Its material subsystem (M) consists of the social unit s characteristic technological artifacts and characteristic ways of making them. Its personality/behavior subsystem (P/B) consists of the social unit s characteristic personality traits and related behavior patterns. [Pg.91]

It is my sense that the U.S. Military provides a glimpse of what is meant by ethics. Ethics are standards by which one should act based on valnes. Values are core beliefs such as duty, honor, and integrity that motivate attitudes and actions. Not aU values are ethical values (integrity is happiness is not). I have nothing against consultants. Sometimes using consultants may be the best tool at a company s disposal to really effect change. The point is that many of these systems seem complicated and expensive, but they all seem to stress one underlying core belief, which is really quite simple. So instead of getting complicated, let s look at what I believe holds many of these systems together. [Pg.15]

We did not observe resentment about the extra support given to some children because of learning difficulties, nor hostility about teachers allowances for differences in children s behaviour. For example, the actions of a child who tossed and turned during story time and sometimes groaned appeared to be accepted by her peers as part of who she is. The children s attitudes towards each other seem to have been nurtured within a culture of respect and tolerance, shaped by the attitudes they have experienced from and observed in the staff, and based on the core belief that all members of the school are valued. [Pg.68]
