Cooling measuring

Heat prostration—Avoid going outside on hot, sunny days use fans to cool the body if the day is extremely warm sponge the skin with cool water if other cooling measures are not available and wear loose-fitting clothes in warm weather. [Pg.235]

Cocaine or stimulant intoxication may require administration of a small dose of a short-acting benzodiazepine (e.g., lorazepam 1 to 2 mg) for agitation or severe anxiety. Antipsychotics (e.g., haloperidol 2 to 5 mg) should be used only if psychosis is present. If hyperthermia is present, initiate cooling measures. [Pg.547]

Fig. 9. The 3/Hn coupling constants versus temperature for different alanine residues in XAO peptide. The reversibility of 3/hn coupling constant versus temperature was checked by measurements with temperature increasing from 2° to 56°C (labeled as heating) or decreasing from 56° to 6°C (labeled as cooling). The errors are the same in heating and cooling measurements the error bars are shown only for heating measurements for clarity. The conditions were temperature from 2° to 56°C, concentration ca. 4 mM, in 30 mM sodium acetate buffer (pH = 4.6, 10% D20 ). From Shi et al. (2002). Proc. Natl. Acad. Sd. Deveaux et al. [21] reported that mefenamic acid, being an N-aryl derivative of anthranilic acid, can be characterized by two color reactions. The color reactions, negative with N-aryl derivatives of aminonicotinic acid, are associated with the diphenylamine structure. For the first color reaction, add to a test tube approximately 0.5 g of oxalic acid dihydrate and at least 1 mg of the test material. Place the tube into an oil bath at 180-200°C for 4-5 min. After cooling, dissolve the residue in 10 mL of 95% ethanol to obtain a stable, intense blue solution (absorption maximum at 586-590 nm). To use the reaction for capsule formulations, extract the active ingredient with acetone and filter prior to the assay. For the second color reaction, add mefenamic acid (100-800 pg) in 1 mL of H0Ac-H2S04 (98 2, v/v), 5 mL of HOAc-HCl (50 50, v/v) and 1 mL of 0.10% (w/w) aqueous levulose. Heat the mixture for 25 min at 100°C, and after cooling, measure the absorbance at 597 nm. [Pg.296]

There is no specific antidote for strychnine but recovery from strychnine exposure is possible with early hospital treatment. Treatment consists of removing the drug from the body (decontamination) and getting supportive medical care in a hospital setting. Supportive care includes intravenous fluids, medications for convulsions and spasms, and cooling measures for high temperature. [Pg.203]

Place 6 g of 1,4-dimethoxybenzene (hydroquinone dimethyl ether) in a 125-mL Erlenmeyer flask, add 10 mL of /-butyl alcohol and 20 mL of acetic acid, and put the flask in an ice-water bath to cool. Measure 10 mL of concentrated sulfuric acid into a 50-mL Erlenmeyer flask, add 10 mL of 30% fuming sulfuric acid or 20 mL of concentrated sulfuric acid, and put the flask, properly supported, in the ice bath to cool. For good thermal contact the ice bath should be an ice-water mixture. Put a thermometer in the larger flask and swirl in the ice bath until the temperature is in the range 0-3°C, and remove the thermometer (solid, ifpresent, will dissolve later). Don t use the thermometer as a stirring rod. Clamp a small separatory funnel in a position to deliver into the 125-mL Erlenmeyer flask so that the flask can remain in the ice-water bath, wipe the smaller flask dry, and pour the chilled sulfuric acid solution into the funnel. While swirling the 125-mL flask in the ice bath, run in the chilled sulfuric acid by rapid drops during the course of 4-7 min. [Pg.359]

The next day, use beaker tongs to remove beaker 1 with the filter paper and KNO3 from the drying oven. Allow the beaker to cool. Measure the mass using the same balance you used to measure the mass of the empty beaker. Record the new mass in your data table. Be sure to use beaker tongs. Remember that hot glassware does not always look hot. [Pg.785]

Using beaker tongs, remove your sample from the drying oven, and allow it to cool. Measure and record the mass of the beaker with paper towel, filter paper, and precipitate to the nearest 0.01 g. [Pg.806]

Allow the match to cool. Measure and record the mass of the burned match. [Pg.3]

Overall plant design and operational features emphasize the need to obtain as high a concentration of phosphoric acid as possible. Also important is the arrangement of acidulation and vapor control equipment to ensure safe containment of the incidental fluorides. These objectives are accomplished with adequate cooling measures to operate the whole process at low to moderate acidulation temperatures. [Pg.302]

Hyperthermia requires urgent cooling measures (see p 21) and may respond to specific pharmacologic therapy with dantrolene (p 431). When hyperthermia occurs in the setting of amantadine withdrawal, some have advocated using amantadine as therapy. [Pg.70]

A. The primary indication for dantrolene is malignant hyperthermia (see p 22). Dantrolene may be useful in treating hyperthermia and rh domyolysis caused by dmg-induced muscular hyperactivity not controlled by usual cooling measures or neuromuscular paralysis. [Pg.431]

If heat damage is not very serious and individual temperature exceeds the limitation, local mechanical cooling measures can be taken to improve the meteorological conditions in coal face (W Wen et al. 2002). [Pg.375]

Air coolers are installed at the end of the fan drums and pushed forward with the working face s development. This method can overcome the shortage that the temperature in the head is low, but comes that heat could not be easily eliminated as the roadway are too long. However, even cooling measures are adopted to reduce the temperature in the head most of the... [Pg.804]
