Occasionally, conversion to tolbutamide in the hospital may be advisable in candidates who require more than 40 units of insulin daily. During this conversion period when insulin and tolbutamide are being used, hypoglycemia rarely may occur. During insulin withdrawal, have patients test urine for glucose and acetone at least 3 times/day and report results to their physician. The appearance of persistent acetonuria with glycosuria indicates that the patient is a type 1 diabetes patient who requires insulin therapy. 

In some countries (particularly those where organic farms are relatively few) only limited amounts of organic feed are available. This may create welfare problems, since it becomes difficult and expensive for farmers to supplement poor harvests with purchased feed. The alternative, to buy conventional feed, is also expensive since the animals then must go through a new conversion period before the products can be sold as organic.

Source of animals. While a conventional herd or flock can be converted to organic production, there are usually limitations on the numbers of animals that can be brought in from non-organic sources as replacement animals within a particular year. For those conventional animals that are converted or brought-in, there are conversion periods before the milk and offspring can be considered as organic. In the UK, animals for meat production must be born on a registered unit. 

Suckler cows must undergo a conversion period of not less than 12 weeks immediately prior to calving, during which time they must be managed organically. 

Where livestock is bought in, the source and number of animals, any previous quarantine measures and any conversion periods should be recorded. 

Point 1 deals with the length of the conversion period. The principles set out in the Regulation must have been applied for at least 2 years before sowing or, in the case of perennial crops (fruit growing), at least 3 years before the first harvest. The conversion period can be extended or reduced in certain cases. 

Products may under certain circumstances bear indications regarding their status during the conversion period product under conversion to organic farming . The requirements for this are a conversion period of at least 12 months before the harvest the product contains only one crop ingredient of agricultural origin and the name or code number of the inspection body is stated.

Kinetic experiments, during the stable conversion period, were performed for sample c in order to obtain a better understanding of the reaction mechanism. The results are presented in figure 4. Extrapolation of residual selectivity values to zero space-time shows that more than 30% of toluene would produce residue by a parallel reaction. Many farms are still in the conversion period. Farms are waiting to be allowed to sale their produces as organic. 

According to the EC reg. 2092/91 the farm becomes organic after two years conversion period.
