Continuous numerical data

Some of the subgroups which are of special interest are the Office of Scientific Personnel the Office of Documentation the Nuclear Data Project which publishes Nuclear Data Tables, Nuclear Reaction Graphs, and Nuclear Theory Cards Office of Critical Tables, which publishes the Directory of Continuing Numerical Data Projects and the Prevention of Deterioration Center which publishes Prevention of Deterioration Ahstracts, Environmental Effects on Materials and Equipment Abstracts, and PDC Newsletter. The Cardiovascular Literature Project which recently left NAS-NRC is now operating as the Washington office of the Institute for Advancement of Medical Communications. [Pg.193]

All the preceding discussion has concerned continuous numerical data. Not all data is of this form, and we now discuss the encoding of nonnumerical data. Logical variables have one of two values that are encoded as zero and one. An example is the presence or absence (a yes or no) of a feature. Typically the presence (yes) is encoded as a 1 and the absence (no) as a 0. Categorical data should be encoded in some variation of a one-of-N code (N equals the number of categories) or a thermometer code. [Pg.105]

That measurement may be numerical and continuous, as in determining the concentration of cocaine, or categorical (yes/no green/orange/blue, and so on). We will focus attention on continuous numerical data. [Pg.19]

Two publications of the National Bureau of Standards are useful for their thermodynamic data. Circular 500, Selected Values of Chemical Thermodynamic Properties, 1952, is a vast compilation of very useful physical data, though it is not so up to date as Landolt-BSrnstein. Circular 510 and its supplements, Tables of Chemical Kinetics, Homogeneous Reactions (1951) is a critical compilation of data on rates and rate constants of homogeneous chemical reactions with evaluations and literature references. The Directory of Continuing Numerical Data Projects is a survey and analysis by the Office of Critical Tables (National Research Council Publ. 837, 1961) which reviews the American Petroleum Research Project on hydrocarbons, the Chemical Kinetics Data Project, Selected values for the thermodynamic properties of metals and alloys, and Selected values of chemical thermodynamic properties and other projects. [Pg.110]

The plant is controlled by a process computer (ABB-Hartmann and Braun) and equipped with numerous data-collecting instruments.
