Consumers definition

In thermodynamics we distinguish between two types of quantities those which depend on path and those which do not. Actually, both types are in everyday use. Consider for example an automobile trip from New York to San Francisco. The straight-line distance between these two cities is fixed it does not depend on the path or route taken to get from one to the other. On the other hand, such measurements as miles traveled and fuel consumed definitely depend on the path. So it is in thermodynamics both types of quantities are used. [Pg.20]

But even if we confine our discussion to the product as such, producers and sellers of organic foods still have an additional problem in capturing the full potential appeal of their products, namely that the term organic refers primarily to how the product was made, not to the product that resulted.
