Contracts to build pillboxes to protect the Hudswell area were issued on 9 September, and for all other sites ten days later. Construction was undertaken by the Devizes firm of W.E. Chivers, who were also responsible for building defences along the GHQ Blue line. Work at Corsham was completed, in a modified form resulting from the gradual abandonment of the Linear Defence scheme, on 20 March, 1941. Chivers also built a series of ponable railway-blocks which could be used to obstruct the mouths of Box tunnel and the entrances to the War Department sidings. 

The Atmospheric Nitrogen Corporation, now operating the largest direct synthetic ammonia plant in the United States, is preparing for the erection of a large plant for this process for the production of fertilizer materials at Hope-well, Virginia. Indeed it is reported that construction has already started on the Hopewell site and that much of the equipment has been ordered and the fabrication of some completed. This plant will mark the entrance of the direct synthetic ammonia process for fertilizer production in this country and it is expected that expansion will be rapid. 

In the enzyme with a known structure, active site usually locates in the crack and crevice structure of the enzyme. The hydrophobic structure of crack and crevice is in favor of the combination between enzyme and substrate and excludes the entrance of water molecules. But when water molecules also participate in the reaction, crack and crevice need necessary radical residues to construct the required imusual environment for the catalytic reaction. 

Children - this topic is covered in detail in Chapter 7. Local schools should be made aware of the proposed construction work and pupils warned of the hazards present on the site particularly when it is not being worked. Work on school premises requires extra care and 2 m plywood panels may need to be fitted around the base of scaffolds to prevent access by children. If possible, such work should be done during weekends or school holiday periods. Deliveries should not occur at school start, finish or break times. Tunnels and fans (see Figure 8.10) may be required near playgrounds and entrances to prevent pupils, staff and parents being struck by falling objects.
