Connective breakdown

Unnecessary loading of the breakdown fuse through transient overvoltages can be avoided by connection to a r element which consists of a length choke and transverse capacitors. So-called iron core chokes are most conveniently used for series chokes, which are usual in power electronics. A damping element with a 61-fjF capacitor is advised at the input and output of the r element. [Pg.340]

For normal operation, the breakdown fuse is not connected because if it is called upon to act, the cell would be short circuited, which could lead to its destruction. When there is work being done on the cable and the cathodic protection station is switched off, the fuse is connected by closing the switch. The cell (2) can be isolated by removing the connection (4). Finally, by closing the connection (1), direct grounding is established. In installing the cell, the process is carried out in the reverse direction. [Pg.340]

Low ionizing potentials or soft ionization methods are necessary to observe the parent ions in the mass spectra of many S-N compounds because of their facile thermal decomposition. Mass spectrometry has been used to investigate the thermal breakdown of S4N4 in connection with the formation of the polymer (SN). On the basis of the appearance potentials of various S Ny fragments, two important steps were identified ... [Pg.47]

Electrical Stability of Emuisions. The electrical stability test indicates the stability of emulsions of water in oil. The emulsion tester consists of a reliable circuit using a source of variable AC current (or DC current in portable units) connected to strip electrodes. The voltage imposed across the electrodes can be increased until a predetermined amount of current flows through the mud emulsion-breakdown point. Relative stability is indicated as the voltage at the breakdown point. [Pg.658]

Information access breakdowns occur when pertinent information has been stored but it either cannot be accessed for technical reasons or for some reason cannot be found in a meaningful or expedient manner for a particular application. Technical reasons can include legacy databases that are not connected with current systems, incompatibility issues between systems, problems of localized access (information can only be accessed within a site, a group or domain area, or even a personal computer), and authentication (people do not have the required authority to access information they need or cannot remember usernames and passwords). [Pg.233]

Grain boundary defects are primarily responsible for the operation of zinc oxide (ZnO) varistors, a shortened form of variable resistor. The varistor behaves like an insulator or poor semiconductor at lower electrical field strengths, but at a critical breakdown voltage the resistance decreases enormously and the material behaves like an electrical conductor (Fig. 3.36). When a varistor is connected in parallel with electrical equipment, negligible power flows through it under normal low... [Pg.124]

The electrical power of both plants (XX kW) is supplied by the main power supply of building (F). An emergency diesel power supply ofYY kW is installed, which switches on 1 min after a power break. (If YY is not equal to XX The sequence of components to be connected to the emergency set is listed in directive (q), deposited at the control center). The control- and calculating system of both plants is connected by shielded cables to an independent power supply system, called computer power, that excludes influences of power variation or breakdown. [Pg.261]

Sanders If you get rid of the interstitial cells there is no further response to nerve stimulation. You can get a nice response to acetylcholine. Then you go back to the wild-type animal and you can block the breakdown of acetylcholine and then get a smooth muscle response. The point is that while there are synaptic connections in GI smooth muscle, synaptic connections between the motor neurons and smooth muscles are not so common. The major synaptic connections are between the motor neurons and the interstitial cells. [Pg.79]

A vast amount of data based on dielectric constant measurements of substances in dilute solution in nonpolar solvents indicate that the theory is correct, but it looses validity and breaks down completely in the case of strongly polar media. It is interesting to notice that such a breakdown can be shown by the concept of the Curie point, introduced in connection with studies of magnetism but directly applicable to the case of dielectric constants. The dielectric constant can be related to the molar polarizability P and the molar concentration c by q. (21) and the value of P itself is given by Eq. (22). It is obvious that P increases as T dimin-... [Pg.285]
