Although our values are not in quantitative agreement with the experimental values (see Ref. 50 for a discussion), they faithfully reproduce the well-known observation that the disorder increases from the tops of the chains toward the middle of the bilayer, with a more pronounced increase in the last few carbons of the chain. The. S cd represent different types of disorder, including chain conformational defects and whole molecule wobbling [67].

In the via precursor method, however, it is difficult to prepare the ji-conjugated polymers with ideally developed -conjugation system the -conjugated polymer chains contain many conformational defects because the jc-conjugated chains are caused to develop from disordered precursor polymer, which form random coil conformation, in solid state. For the preparation of polymers with well-developed jc-conjugation system by the via precursor method, accordingly, it is necessary to introduce orientational and conformational orderliness of the precursor polymers in the films. 

The study of dynamics of a real polymer chain of finite length and containing some conformational defects represents a very difficult task. Due to the lack of symmetry and selection mles, the number of vibrational modes is enormous. In this case, instead of calculating the frequency of each mode, it is more convenient to determine the density of vibrational modes, that is, the number of frequencies that occur in a given spectral interval. The density diagram matches, apart from an intensity factor, the experimental spectmm. Conformational defects can produce resonance frequencies when the proper frequency of the defect is resonating with those of the perfect lattice (the ideal chain), or quasi-localized frequencies when the vibrational mode of the defect cannot be transmitted by the lattice. The number and distribution of the defects may be such... 

A method based on that of Go and Scheraga " was used to search conformation space to solve the first part of the problem. The relaxation itself entails the propagation of a conformational defect from one unit cell to the next...

The lower packing density of the fi-crystalline form is also suspected to contribute positively to the toughness [75,140,172], As already outlined in Sect. 6.2.3, the induced reduced chain interactions may promote an easier plastic deformation of the lamellae (particularly a favored slip of the lamellae chains), as a consequence of the lowered energy barrier of the most probable conformational defects (e.g. 120 chain twist accompanied by a c/3 shift in the stem direction) as suggested Labour et al. [140].

Optimum quality standards necessitate early involvement between development and QC and close liaison with the supplier (which must be compatible with the full production schedule). A variable-quality product (through design or conformance defects) can interfere with or interrupt the efficient operation of the purchaser s entire production line, possibly leading to variability with associated components (e.g. closures that do not fit containers) and with the pharmaceutical product (e.g. capping difficulties leading to machine stoppages will increase the fill variability of a liquid filling line). This cannot but reduce the ultimate quality of the pharmaceutical presentation as received by the user (hospital/doctor/patient).
