Conducting Polymer-Based Composites

Conducting polymers have intrinsic conductivity in the range 10 to 10 Scm due to the presence of delocalized Pl-electrons given by the C-C double bonds in the backbone structure. Their electrical conductivity can be further increased to 10° to 10 Scm by partial oxidation (P-doping) or reduction (n-doping) [51]. To synthesize flexible conducting BC, polyaniline (PAni) and polypyrrole (PPy) have been widely investigated and some of these results are summarized below. [Pg.493]

Another important category of conducting polymer-based composites includes films containing metal, metal oxide, clay, carbon black, semiconductor, and other types of particles (Table 20.17). These composites can be synthesized electrochemically by polymerizing the parent monomer (pyrrole, thiophene, or aniline) in a dis-... [Pg.571]

Thermally conductive polymer based composites are tentatively prepared by the incorporation of thermally conductive fillers. Since the discovery of CNTs, they have been the focus of frontier research. It has opened vast areas of research which also include nanoscaled reinforcements in composites in order to improve their mechanical, thermal and even electrical properties. [Pg.110]
