Compound batch

The final quality and reproducibility of rubber compounds mixed from scratch on a two-roll mill, or finalisation of compound batches mixed in an internal mixer, depend to a large degree on the skill of the mill operative. In order to overcome to some extent the reliance on operative skill and to ensure reproducible mix quality many mills are now fitted with stock blender units. These consist of a driven twin roller system, of similar overall length to the mill rolls, fitted above the mill frame. [Pg.196]

Chemical analysis of free sulphur provides one of the most generally accepted methods of determining the state of cure and the same is to be done on the compound batch. [Pg.184]

By synchronizing and integrating sample inventory and transactions with operational screening informatics software, the inventory system enables the association of screening endpoints with compound structures and compound batch data (for example, commercial source, synthetic reference, etc.). [Pg.243]

Larger plants are preferably equipped with two or more lines, fed by one large compounding, batching, or formulation system. Otherwise the lines are kept separate to improve availability because only one line is down during maintenance and emergency shutdowns. [Pg.480]

The compound formulation and mixing procedure are given in Table 2. The temperatures of the compound-batches after discharge were measured with a pyrometer, directly after dumping. More details about the mixing procedure can be taken from the earlier article [1]. [Pg.551]

Solution calorimetry covers the measurement of the energy changes that occur when a compound or a mixture (solid, liquid or gas) is mixed, dissolved or adsorbed in a solvent or a solution. In addition it includes the measurement of the heat capacity of the resultant solution. Solution calorimeters are usually subdivided by the method in which the components are mixed, namely, batch, titration and flow. [Pg.1910]

Zinc dust of good quality usually contains only negligible quantities of halogen and sulphur, and is nitrogen-free. A blank for these elements should, however, be made with every fresh batch of reagent prepared if perceptible traces of halogen or sulphur are present, a blank or control test must be performed side by side with that on the organic compound, and the results compared. [Pg.326]

Control experiment. This is not necessary if the sodium peroxide is known to be chlorine-free. If there is any doubt on this point, the whole operation should be repeated precisely as before, but omitting the organic halogen compound. A small thiocyanate titration value may be found, and this should be deducted from all determinations in which the above quantity of the particular batch of sodium peroxide is used. [Pg.507]

Ma.nufa.cture. In general, manufacture is carried out in batch reactors at close to atmospheric pressure. A moderate excess of finely divided potassium hydroxide is suspended in a solvent such as 1,2-dimethoxyethane. The carbonyl compound is added, followed by acetylene. The reaction is rapid and exothermic. At temperatures below 5°C the product is almost exclusively the alcohol. At 25—30°C the glycol predominates. Such synthesis also... [Pg.113]

The main features in which the Radford process differs from the batch operation are in thermal dehydration and compounding. Water-wet nitrocellulose on a continuous vacuum belt filter is vacuum-dried followed by hot air transfusion (80°C) to reduce the moisture to less than 2%. After cooling, alcohol is sprayed on the nitrocellulose to a concentration of 15—20%. The alcohol-wet nitrocellulose is then transferred from a surge feeder to a compounder by a continuous weigh-belt along with the other ingredients of the composition, which are also weighed and added automatically. [Pg.44]

Deodorization can be carried out ki batch, continuous, or semicontkiuous systems. Figure 4 shows a typical design for a semicontkiuous deodorizer. The heated ok is passed through a series of trays under vacuum. Steam is passed through the ok through a steam sparge ki the bottom of the tray. Volatiles are carried through the headspace and condensed. In addition to fatty acids and compounds responsible for odor, some tocopherols and sterols are also distilled kito the condensate. The amount of tocopherols distilled depends on deodorization temperature and vacuum. [Pg.127]

Three bulk polymerization processes are commercially important for the production of methacrylate polymers batch cell casting, continuous casting, and continuous bulk polymerization. Approximately half the worldwide production of bulk polymerized methacrylates is in the form of molding and extmsion compounds, a quarter is in the form of cell cast sheets, and a quarter is in the form of continuous cast sheets. [Pg.265]

Dicyclopentadiene is also polymerized with tungsten-based catalysts. Because the polymerization reaction produces heavily cross-Unked resins, the polymers are manufactured in a reaction injection mol ding (RIM) process, in which all catalyst components and resin modifiers are slurried in two batches of the monomer. The first batch contains the catalyst (a mixture of WCl and WOCl, nonylphenol, acetylacetone, additives, and fillers the second batch contains the co-catalyst (a combination of an alkyl aluminum compound and a Lewis base such as ether), antioxidants, and elastomeric fillers (qv) for better moldabihty (50). Mixing two Uquids in a mold results in a rapid polymerization reaction. Its rate is controlled by the ratio between the co-catalyst and the Lewis base. Depending on the catalyst composition, solidification time of the reaction mixture can vary from two seconds to an hour. Similar catalyst systems are used for polymerization of norbomene and for norbomene copolymerization with ethyhdenenorbomene. [Pg.431]

Manufacture. Phosphoms sulfides are manufactured commercially by direct reaction of the elements. Elemental phosphoms and sulfur are measured into a reaction vessel containing a heel of molten phosphoms sulfide. The reaction can be batch or continuous. The ratio of phosphoms to sulfur in the feed determines which phosphoms sulfur compound (Table 5) is formed. The reaction temperature can be the boiling point or lower. For the boiling reactor (27,28), the phosphoms sulfide product is first purified by distillation and then condensed to a Hquid. Alternatively, the Hquid product can be formed directly in a nondistiUed process (29—31), which may involve a subsequent distillation step (30), and in which the phosphoms is often cleaned up prior to use (30—32). For either process, the Hquid phosphoms sulfide product is soHdified, and usually sized to form a commercial material. [Pg.364]
