The presence of the momentum operator means that the small component basis set must contain functions which are derivatives of the large basis set. The use of kinetic balance ensures that the relativistie solution smoothly reduees to the non-relativistic wave function as c is increased. [Pg.214]

Variance scaling is performed on a variable by variable basis. In other words, we would variance scale a set the concentration values of a data set on a component by component basis. Starting with the first component, we compute the total variance of the concentrations of that component. There are several variations on variance scaling. First, we will consider the most the method which adjusts all the variables to exactly unit variance. To do this we compute the variance of the variable, and then use the variance to scale all the concentrations of all the samples so that the new variance for the component is equal to unity. [Pg.175]

A major aspect of environmental safeguarding is the abolishment of bulk neutralization of pollutants in a mixed fluid flow. It must be replaced by local action taken, wherever possible, on a component-by-component basis as close to the origin as may be, and preferably inside the source. This is just the opposite of currently prevailing systems where the entire spectrum of pollutants are collected and neutralized and/or recycled. Moreover, the local treatment performed close to the source is less expensive, if one takes into account all relevant costs. Since vehicles mostly rely on combustion for their energy, the safeguarding methods will include ... [Pg.47]

The loadings describe the contribution of each sensor to the principal components basis. A large loading, for a sensor, means that the principal component is mostly aligned along the sensor direction. [Pg.156]

Since the vendor s functional specifications are usually defined for a specific instrument component, the OQ is usually also performed on an individual component basis. This is one of the things that sets the OQ apart from the PQ, which is described later. [Pg.313]

The ability to use precisely the same basis set parameters in the relativistic and non-relativistic calculations means that the basis set truncation error in either calculation cancels, to an excellent approximation, when we calculate the relativistic energy correction by taking the difference. The cancellation is not exact, because the relativistic calculation contains additional symmetry-types in the small component basis set, but the small-component overlap density of molecular spinors involving basis functions whose origin of coordinates are located at different centres is so small as to be negligible. The non-relativistic molecular structure calculation is, for all practical purposes, a precise counterpoise correction to the four-component relativistic molecular... [Pg.133]

The molecular orbitals in the nonrelativistic and one-component calculations and the large component in the Dirac-Fock functions were spanned in the Cd s Ap9d)l[9slp6d basis of [63] and the H (5s 2p)/[35 l/>] set [61]. Contraction coefficients were taken from corresponding atomic SCF calculations. The basis for the small components in the Dirac-Fock calculations is derived by the MOLFDIR program from the large-component basis. The basis set superposition error is corrected by the counterpoise method [64]. The Breit interaction was found to have a very small effect and is therefore not included in the results. [Pg.170]

Note that by writing the basis functions as a row vector, they transform among themselves as do the basis vectors, not like vector components. Basis functions transform cogfediently to basis vectors. With this definition, the D(G), the functional... [Pg.95]

The highest quality component in the alkylation product when making aviation or motor alkylate is a mixture of trimethylpentanes. Although some of the other components have high octane, most are of inferior octane number. It is therefore desirable to make as much of the trimethylpentanes as possible. On a pure component basis, isobutylene and butylene-2 will alkylate isobutane quite readily to form trimethylpentanes. However, butylene-1 has a tendency to form dimethylhexanes. Most of these dimethyl-hexanes are of lower octane number, and their production is to be avoided... [Pg.171]

Principal component regression is accomplished in two steps, a calibration step and an unknown prediction step. In the calibration step, concentrations of the constituent(s) to be quantitated in each calibration standard sample are assembled into a matrix, y, and mean-centered. Spectra of standards are measured, assembled into a matrix X, mean-centered, and then an SVD is performed. Calibration spectra are projected onto the d principal components (basis vectors) retained and are used to determine a vector of regression coefficients that can be then used to estimate the concentration of the calibrated constituent(s). [Pg.142]

The present chapter aims to introduce the DC-CASPT2 method. Theoretical review of the four-component DC method, especially the way of taking two-component basis set in REL4D, is described in Section 6.2. and theoretical review of DC-CASPT2 is described in Section 6.3. Applications of the DC-CASPT2 method for T1H, Tl2, PbH, and Pb2 molecules are discussed with their potential curves in Section 6.4. Conclusions are described in the final Section, 6.5. [Pg.159]

A. Finite-basis sets The molecular wave functions are represented as a finite sum of atom-centred four-component basis functions, which causes a spurious force often called orbital basis correction (OBC) (also known as Pulay force (Pulay 1983)). For an atom centred at Ra it reads... [Pg.156]
