Lead.— The kinetics of ligand exchange between the edta complex of Pb and (R)-(—)-l,2-propylenediaminetetra-acetic acid in base solution show the existence of three reaction pathways, attack by (R)-(—)-j ta , attack assisted by one OH", and attack assisted by two OH respectively. The mechanism suggested involves species with the ligand partly dissociated, and with one and two hydroxide ligands respectively. A polarographic study of the kinetics of displacement by Pb + of Ca + and Mg + in complexes with the cyclohexane-1,2-diaminotetra-acetate ion has been published.
