Compensation strategies

Of the various available techniques, the most widely used are based on the Measurement Test (Mah and Tamhane, 1982). These are the Modified Iterative Measurement Test (MIMT) developed by Serth and Heenan (1986) and the Generalized Likelihood Ratio (GLR) method presented by Narasimhan and Mah (1987). The MIMT method uses a serial elimination strategy to detect and identify only biases in measuring instruments. The GLR method allows us to identify multiple gross errors of any type. It uses a serial compensation strategy.

When Dr. Brouchard estimated the number of patients with type 2 diabetes, he also took note of their insurance carriers. Since Sun City, Arizona, is a major retirement community with strict age requirements for its residents, it was not surprising that most of the people served by the pharmacy were elderly (Northwest Valley Chamber of Commerce, 2007). Most of the patients with type 2 diabetes had Medicare insurance, followed by a variety of third-party insurance carriers. Because Medicare was the main insurance carrier for his patients, Dr. Brouchard knew he would have to consider compensation strategies for those patients with and without Medicare Part D coverage. 

Most of the strategies discussed thus far can be applied to community pharmacy settings. However, this is not the only setting in which pharmacists offer value-added services. There are two specific practice settings that offer unique compensation strategies for ambulatory care pharmacists the physician office and the hospital-based outpatient clinic.

One of the most prevalent compensation strategies is to establish a target salary that is tied to compensation for similar positions in the appropriate competitive marketplace. Market pricing is a formal process for determining the external value of a position compared to an organization s competitive market. This is a job-based method of defining compensation structure. 

The error of a measurement system depends on the nonideal characteristics of each of the elements in the system. It is possible to identify which of the elements show significant nonideal behavior using calibration experiments. Compensation strategies may then be devised for each of these elements so that significant reductions can be accomplished for the overall system error. Some of these compensation methods are briefly highlighted, especially for nonlinear and environmental effects. 

The development of kinematic models based on machine structure is one of the most important steps for an error compensation strategy. The MT kinematic model is used to understand and mathematically describe the motion of the machine [5,6,9], The sequence of movements that describes the kinematic model is determined by the t5q)e of machine, the geometrical structure and the number of axes of the same.
