Evidence of repellent properties in camip, Nepeta cataria, to flies and cockroaches was observed in preliminary studies.This study compared catnip essential oil obtained by steam distillation and elemol (Fig. 8), a major constituent of osage orange essential oil, to current commercial repellents. In numerous applications of polymeric materials multilayers of films are used. This practice is found in microelectronic, aeronautical, and biomedical applications to name a few. Developing good adhesion between these layers requires interdiffusion of the molecules at the interfaces between the layers over size scales comparable to the molecular diameter (tens of nm). In addition, these interfaces are buried within the specimen. Aside from this practical aspect, interdififlision over short distances holds the key for critically evaluating current theories of polymer difllision. Theories of polymer interdiffusion predict specific shapes for the concentration profile of segments across the interface as a function of time. Interdiffiision studies on bilayered specimen comprised of a layer of polystyrene (PS) on a layer of perdeuterated (PS) d-PS, can be used as a model system that will capture the fundamental physics of the problem. Initially, the bilayer will have a sharp interface, which upon annealing will broaden with time. 

The break in the plot log I vs coincides with the observed inflection in rH2 and r0, and corresponds to the onset of Pt oxide formation.6 As shown in Fig. 10.3 the, predominantly catalytic, rates rH2 and r0 depend exponentially on catalyst potential Uriie, as in studies with solid electrolytes with slopes comparable with the Tafel slopes seen here. This explains why the observed magnitude of the faradaic efficiency A (-2-20) is in good agreement with 2F rc° /I0 (rc° is the open-circuit catalytic rate and I0 is the exchange current) which is known to predict the expected magnitude of A in solid-electrolyte studies. 

They performed an extensive case study to demonstrate the use of automatic history matching to reservoir characterization. For example, if the estimated permeability of a particular zone is unrealistically small compared to geological information, there is a good chance that an impermeable barrier is present. Similarly if the estimated porosity of a zone approaches unrealistically high values, chances are the zone of the reservoir should be expanded beyond its current boundary. 

Deposition of mercury at boron-doped diamond (BDD) and platinum electrodes has also been studied [33]. Deposition and oxidation of mercury was performed by cyclic voltammetry from the solution of 1 mM Hg2 ( 104)2 in 1 M Na l04. In order to learn more about this deposition, it was carried out also under chronoamperometric conditions. The results obtained are shown in Fig. 2 in the form of dimensionless current-time transients. Experimental curves obtained at two different overpotentials were compared with the theoretical curves calculated for instantaneous and progressive nucleation.
