Communication proofing

The NRC also imposes special security requirements for spent fuel shipments and transport of highly enriched uranium or plutonium materials that can be used in the manufacture of nuclear weapons. These security measures include route evaluation, escort personnel and vehicles, communications capabiHties, and emergency plans. State governments are notified in advance of any planned shipment within their state of spent fuel, or any other radioactive materials requiring shipment in accident-proof. Type B containers. [Pg.92]

In 1878 the term enzyme, Greek for "in yeast," was proposed (8). It was reasoned that chemical compounds capable of catalysis, ie, ptyalin (amylase from sahva), pepsin, and others, should not be called ferments, as this term was already in use for yeast cells and other organisms. However, proof was not given for the actual existence of enzymes. EinaHy, in 1897, it was demonstrated that ceU-free yeast extract ("zymase") could convert glucose into ethanol and carbon dioxide in exactiy the same way as viable yeast cells. It took some time before these experiments and deductions were completely understood and accepted by the scientific community. [Pg.284]

In this section, we shall state the final theorem necessary to give unity to the previous results if RT < CT, then reliable communication is possible with as small an error probability as desired. This remarkable theorem was first stated and essentially proved in 1948 by C. E. Shannon.10 The first rigorous proof of the theorem was given by Feinstein,11 and a number of other proofs and generalizations have subsequently been given. [Pg.219]

There is essentially no other question which more vigorously splits the micro reactor and even the chemical community into groups of complete stances. There are even commentators who consider the proof of production feasibility of micro reactors as the central issue to be solved, like a conditio sine qua non . As an extreme view, they claim to see no other raison d etre for micro reactors or at least none of similar importance. [Pg.54]

The purpose of a record is to enable undistorted retrieval of the information as and when required. A record needs to be such that someone in the future can follow through exactly what was done. It is essential that records are complete and that they are retained for an adequate period of time. Records are used in laboratories for a number of reasons, e.g. monitoring, controlling, communicating and proof. [Pg.204]

The hardest thing for me in having a problem that has not been recognized by the medical community is to have the onus placed on the person who is not well, to almost be in a defensive position. I am someone who understands persons wanting proof, evidence, a scientific orientation. I want to say, Just hook me up to an MRI or CAT scan and expose me to perfume and watch what happens to my brain ... [Pg.20]

Note added in -proof. The application of the usual integral equation theories of the liquid state 2> to water has not been successful.1) A recent study by H. C. Andersen [J. Chem. Phys. 61, 4985 (1974)] promises to change this situation. Briefly, Andersen reformulates the well known Mayer cluster expansion of the distribution function 2> by consistently taking into account the saturation of interaction characteristic of hydrogen bonding. Approximations are selected which satisfy this saturation condition at each step of the analysis. Preliminary calculations (H. C. Andersen, private communication) indicate that even low order approximations that preserve the saturation condition lead to qualitative be-... [Pg.173]

Added in Proof Isoindole and ethylene are similarly obtained by vacuum pyrolysis of 124 see J. Bomstein, D. E. Remy, and J. E. Shields, Chem. Commun., 1149 (1972). Tlie 2,3-dihydro derivative of adduct (107) also gives the corresponding isoindole at only 120° see H. Heaney, S. V. Ley, A. P. Price, and R. P. Sharma, Tetrahedron Lett., 3067 (1972). [Pg.109]

It took a considerable time before and r of the CsF molecule were measured. j e resulting value, 0.58s 0.07, of its degree of polarity has been considered as a proof for the pronounced deformation of Cs+ in the field of F". From the more exact measurements, communicated in Ref. 3, the somewhat higher value 0.699 followed which, however, is smaller than those known at that time for most alkali halide molecules, the largest being p = 0.819 for KCl, the smallest 0.54 for Lil. [Pg.90]

In short, this means that it may be difficult to have radio, television, and rapid global communication in higher-dimensional worlds. [For a theoretical discussion, see Morley, T. (1985) A simple proof that the world is three-dimensional. SIAM Review. 27(1) 69-71.]... [Pg.204]

Rey s work seems to have made no impression on his times. This is in part explained by very much in his treatise which shows a curious lack of understanding of elementary physics. His work was forgotten and his little book was extremely rare, when it was recovered from oblivion by Bayen in a communication to the Journal de Physique in 1775. This was after Lavoisier s proof in 1774 that the gain in weight of tin heated in a sealed vessel in a confined volume of air, was equal to the loss of weight by this air, and due to fixation of a part of the air by the metal forming the calx.80... [Pg.410]

The timeliness of a manuscript is more important than its form, which may be unfinished or tentative. Thus, in some instances, proofs may be merely outlined and results presented which have been or will later be published elsewhere. If possible, a subject index should be included. Publication of Lecture Notes is intended as a service to the international chemical community, in that a commercial publisher, Springer-Verlag, can offer a wider distribution to documents which would otherwise have a restricted readership. Once published and copyrighted, they can be documented in the scientific literature. [Pg.423]
