Columbine

Of the explosive devices that actually exploded at Columbine High School, thirteen were placed outside of the school building, five were situated in the library, six exploded in hallways and classrooms, and six went off in the cafeteria. Of the explosive devices that failed to function at the school, two were placed outside the school, twenty-six were situated in the library, fourteen in classrooms or hallways, and four were positioned in the cafeteria.

Eric Harris was born April 9,1981, in Wichita, Kansas, to Wayne and Kathy Harris. His father was a Major in the U.S. Air Force, and moved his family a number of times before retirement in July of 1993 when he moved them to Littleton, Colorado. Like Dylan Klebold, Eric Harris had a brother who was three years older. Eric first met Dylan at Ken Caryl Middle School in Littleton. As a youngster, Eric played soccer and baseball, had an interest in computers, baseball cards, computer games, and videos. In high school, he was involved in video productions and the Columbine Rebel News Network, and computer labs. He used the nickname Reb, whereas Dylan Klebold used the nickname VoDKa with his initials capitalized. On March 18,1998, the Jefferson County Sheriff s Office wrote a suspicious incident report coming from Randy Brown, father of Brooks Brown who was an acquaintance of Eric Harris. His son had... 

A year before the massacre, Eric Harris wrote in Dylan Klebold s Columbine yearbook, God I can t wait till they die. I can taste the blood now — NBK (Natural born killers). You know what I hate ...MANKIND ...

Exiting from the library Klebold and Harris had done exactly what they had planned to do over the previous twelve months now, they seemed to have lost direction as they wandered aimlessly through the Columbine hallways. In the science area, their behavior seemed strange... 

The criminal case regarding the Columbine Massacre will remain open indefinitely because there is no statute of limitations for the crime of murder. However, questions about protecting our children at school will remain forever. No one expected that our sense of security would be threatened — by our own children. It has been threatened time-and-time-again, and there seems to be no solution or remedy at hand.

Think local, not global. Large societal or political issues are usually not personal. Subjects such as Middle East peace, September 11, and Columbine have been expounded upon by experts in the media, and you probably don t have a unique perspective (unless you were personally involved or personally impacted). Think specific and personal, rather than abstract and far away from your everyday life. 

I waited a couple of days until April 20, which I had chosen as my get-even-with-the-world-day. Historically, big things seem to happen on this particular date—the birth of Hitler, the Oklahoma City bombing, the Columbine High School massacre, and the Waco showdown—so I was determined to continue the trend. 

Herbaceous perennials from seed will take a year or two to reach flowering size. Raising perennials from seed is mostly restricted to true species seed sown from a plant with a cultivar name is unlikely to produce a plant identical to the parent. Some perennials, such as columbines, will self-seed freely. The flower color may bear no relation to the parent plant, but that is not necessarily a bad thing.
