Curcumin colorectal cancer

In a pilot trial with 12 patients with hepatic metastases from colorectal cancer, the concentrations of the curcumin in normal and malignant human liver tissue after patients received 450-3600 mg of curcumin daily for 1 week prior to surgery were not sufficient to elicit pharmacological activity, perhaps because of the extensive degree to which curcumin was metabolized in the intestine.

Several reports have described the anticancer activity of curcumin in a variety of cancer cell lines. In vitro studies have established the activity for curcumin against breast, gastric, hepatic, pancreatic, colorectal, urinary bladder, kidney, prostate, cervical, ovarian, uterine, lung, oral, thymic, and skin cancers. Besides these cancer types, curcumin has shown in vitro therapeutic efficacy against hematological cancers including leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma.
