Cone Shell Snails are sea snails that have smooth cone-shaped shells, with colorful mottling and long, narrow openings in the base. [Pg.42]

Mottle ma-t l n [prob. back-formation fr. motley] (1676) (1) An irregular distribution or mixture of colorants or colored materials giving a more or less distinct appearance of specks, spots, or streaks of color. Mottling is often deliberate although it may occur accidentally... [Pg.474]

Signs Early symptoms include leaves that are yellow, or have a mottled or blotchy appearance. Initial presentation may be on a single shoot or branch but then spreads throughout the tree. Affected trees show twig dieback. Fruit are sparse, small, abnormal in appearance, and fail to color properly. The affected fruit are lopsided, small, and remain green. The fruit often contain aborted seeds. [Pg.511]

The color of soil gives an indication of its oxidation-reduction conditions and the amount of OM present. Well-aerated soils will be under oxidizing conditions iron will be in the Fe3+ state, less soluble and thus less available for chemical reaction. Under water-saturated conditions, soil will be under reducing conditions as indicated by increased yellow colorings, gleying, and mottling. Iron will be in the Fe2+ state, which is more soluble and thus more available for chemical reaction. Under these conditions, reduced species such as methane (CH4), hydrogen, (H2), and sulfides will be found. [Pg.58]

Avoid the use of tobacco if you grow tomatoes, peppers or Irish potatoes. Tobacco coutaius tobacco mosaic viras (TMV) which will get ou your hands and be spread to plants which you touch. Equipment, insects or anything touching an infested plant and then another plant is also likely to transfer the disease from plant to plant. TMV is very hard to control and reduces both fruit set and fmit size. Total yield of TMV-infested plants may be reduced slightly or nearly wiped out. Leaves of infested plants may be distorted and will probably have a mottled appearance rather than a solid green color. Remove isolated plants showing these symptoms as soon as they appear. [Pg.10]

Appearance The tablets should be examined for such problems as tablet mottling, picking of the monogram, tablet filming, and capping of the tablets. If the tablets are colored, the color quality needs to be examined. [Pg.208]

The fruit is an achene and generally few are formed (Russell, 1979 Swanton, 1986 Westley, 1993 Wyse and Wilfahrt, 1982). Seeds are x 5 mm long x 2 mm wide, flattened wedge shaped (obovate to linear-obovate), and smooth. Their external color is mottled black, gray, tan, or brown and may have black spots (Alex and Switzer, 1976 Konvalinkova, 2003 USDA, 2006). [Pg.41]

Mottling is defined as an uneven coloration of tablets or nonuniformity of color over the tablet surface. One of the possible causes of mottling may be the difference in color between the active principle and excipients, but sometimes it may be the result of degradation of the active ingredient which imparts spot zones over the surface of the tablets. [Pg.1160]

PROP Mottled brown with fawn color. Extract of 50 g sun-dried betel nut in 100 mL boiling water (IJCNAW 17,469,76). [Pg.169]

SOFTENER 27-3C also reduces the color bleed and color transfer of poly/cotton fabrics dyed with disperse dyesuffs. It also reduces the mottled appearance caused by migration of these dyes during drying and curing. Nonionics exaggerate these effects. ... [Pg.236]
