Alcohols (phenols, a vinyl alcohol, and an iodide derivative (Tl)) worked as effective catalysts for the RTCPs of styrene and MMA. The existence of RT was strongly indicated by the two experiments. Attractive features of the alcohol catalysts include their high reactivity (a small amount being required), low or no toxicity, low cost (cheapness), insensitivity to air (robustness), and minor color and smell. 

OBSH is one of the best blowing agents of the sulfonyUiydrazide class. Its gas hberation characteristics (no stepwise change up to 140°C) makes it possible to obtain foams with small, uniform cells. It is nontoxic and does not impart color and smell to articles. OBSH is used for foaming PVC, polyolefins, polysulfides, microporous rubber, or foamed materials based on mixtures of polymers with rubbers. In the last case, OBSH acts additionally as a cross-linking agent. 

Analysis. Solvent purity is assessed by means of gas chromatography [14.175]-[14.181], physical properties, water content, evaporation residue, and acid, saponification, and hydroxyl numbers [14.182]. Color and smell are also evaluated.

While it is believed that color and smell are good indicative factors in assessment of MIC, relying only on these factors could be very misleading.
