Color and composition

Pigment color is determined by the ratio of Cd, and Zn or Hg if present, to S and Se in the product and can be changed all the way from primrose to maroon. Mercury substitution for cadmium yields (Cd, Hg)S pigments with ted and maroon shades similar to those obtained with selenium substitution. The Cadmium Association provides the simple diagram given in Figure 5 showing the color and composition correlation. [Pg.14]

Often, the presence of very small impurities makes comparison possible. For example, cars are painted with paints prepared to certain specifications of color and composition, and pigments and binders used vary from one manufacturer to another and even between models from the same distributor. A small sample of paint left at the scene of an accident may be... [Pg.111]

Today, special effect pigments are a standard component of solvent and water-based automotive and industrial coatings. The main reasons are both the decorative effect and the technical quality. The automotive designer has a wide range of color and composition possibilities at his disposal. Attractive and individual paint is provided not only by the various colors of special effect pigments, but also by using different particle sizes in combination with other absorption pigments [5.122, 5.137, 5.161]. [Pg.251]

Propolis (bee glue), a potent allergic sensitizer, is a dark yellowish-brown resinous substance with strong adhesive properties. Mixed with wax, it is used by bees to seal up the services in their hives. The color and composition of propolis varies from area to area, depending on its tree source. Propolis preparations are available as powders, ointments and cosmetic moisture creams. The beekeeper inevitably comes into contact with it whenever he handles his hives or honey combs. Allergic contact dermatitis from propolis is an occupational hazard for beekeepers [i, 2]. The hands and arms are usually affected but, in some cases, the eruption starts on the face and neck [2]. Swelling of the face and eyelids is a conspicuous feature [2]. [Pg.840]

Bistre bis-tor n [Fr bistre] (ca. 1751) Brown water color pigment which is derived from the tarry soot of burned, resinous wood and beechwood. It is similar to asphaltum, in color and composition. The color varies from saffron yellow to brown-black, depending upon the source and treatment of the raw material. [Pg.82]

Launch sequence films from previous missions were examined in detail to determine if there were any prior indications of smoke of the color and composition that appeared during the first few seconds of the 51-L mission. None were found. Other vapors in this area were determined to be melting frost from the bottom of the external tank or steam from the rocket exhaust in the pad s sound suppression water trays. [Pg.255]
